Hi i want to do the extending the top hat trick, but i have alloy top hats with spherical bearings, and want to cut and weld a tube, only im dealing with alloy not steel, just wondering if aluminium weld will handle the weight and force on the front, has anyone tried this, thanks.
Are you talking about welding Aluminum, or some product called Aluminum Weld?
If the former, yes it should hold, though I am not an engineer.
If the latter, uhh dude, its your life and the life of everyone around you while driving. NO!!
I am not sure how well you know welding, so I will phrase this for someone who knows nothing about welding. (don’t be offended) Aluminum will require a different welding kit (setup) than steel or iron. If you were to have the stock top hats, you could technically use exhaust pipe as an extender (I think that is what the guy on H-T did) and just wire weld it, or even stick weld it.
Since they are Aluminum, you will need either need a special setup for your mig, or you will need to use tig and the correct rods.
Thanks after all the info and research ive decided to get billet one made, later.
