Im wondering if any of the exterior door handles, maybe for the four door, do they come in metal instead of the plastic?
In trying to remove the plastic retaining clip out that secures the rod to the exterior door handle, you know the one that is a bitch to remove when its old, it broke the handle. I prob wasn’t clever enough.
Mechanic friend told me the metal ones are much easier to deal with this problem. But when I call junk yards, they tell me there wasn’t ever a metal option for the handles?
I really dont think there were metal ones for DA’s no. At least, I have never seen them. There are chromed ones but they are still plastic I believe…
Just grab another set of plastic ones and have at them. i have never had too much trouble putting them in and out. Its not exactly easy but with a bit of patience and the right tools they’ll work.
Almost done! picts soon - hopefully by end of november. I know Im slow, I only work on it when I have some free time.
Those damn plastic clips are nuts. I broke one of the handles trying to get it out - and this is with the lock mechanism out of the car. How the hell would you ever do it with the stricker mounted?
Anyway, I took your advice and bought sedan handles.
Any mods necessary? I’ve seen one link that suggested you need to drill some new holes because the handles operate 180º to one another.
Im pretty damn close. About to have the car, FINALLY, painted. Long time project I know. But I just haven’t had much time.
My brothers a machinist. The rivets that secure the actual handle to the handle body - anyone ever pop these out so you can have better access to painting these parts? Im thinking my brother can easily pop these rivets out and put something back in when I reassemble. However, if someone knows this is retarded, please let me know before hand so I can maintain the mystique of being halfway smart
I’ve sanded the rubber/plastic moldings that run along the side with up to 600 dry. Any point in sanding them wet with 60-800? Im not priming any part of the car. From the little I know about painting, the point of wet sanding with fine grit is after a primer sealer has been applied and before the actual paint and clear. Otherwise your just, ah, sanding (blowing) particles into the wind…
Im stoked. The car is totally soundproofed, rebuilt engine, not VTECH, thanks to glynns suggestions just stayed with the stock motor but its bored .030 over. Quality parts. Lowered 1.5". Viper alarm, stealth install. Leather interior (I did that). Rewired totally from RS to LS/GS, including push button climate controls.
Component speakers in the front.
The only other thing Im thinking of adding, is a perm mount for a small Garmin/Tom Tom GPS deal.

I have 2 questions for you… Why are you planning on NOT priming the car before paint? I’d like to hear a theory or logic behind your reasoning. Is it just to avoid “unneccessary” work?
How did you rewire your climate control? Did you convert to a LS/GS harness, push button controls, and add the mode control motor? Or did you replace the controls/heater/wiring and everything else related to the climate control? If you’re wiling to share how you made it all work you could post it in this thread so the info can be found, thanks. http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194999
