I just bought my first Integra a 1990 DB1 5speed b18a1 previously turbo with 236k on the speedo. I paid $300 and so far have invested very little into it mainly what money I got from selling off the parts that I stripped from it I re invested that. The car came with some new parts that were never installed the previous owner tore out a control arm bolt leaving a gaping hole and lost interest in the car all together.
New Parts
Drivers Axle-free
All engine and trans mounts-free
Upper control arms, they are red brand unknown-free
Upper control arm camber kit, again red brand unknown-free
Half sized civic radiator and fan-free
Oil psi gauge-free
Water temp gauge-free
Boost gauge-free
Front wheel bearings-free
Front lower ball joints-free
9lb flywheel eclutchmaster- $100
Stage 2 clutch kit eclutchmaster- $100
Other parts I have so far most used
MSD BTM ignition box needs dash knob
Intercooler that could probably fit a huge truck its 27x11x3
I made a 3 gauge panel to fit where the radio was but then stripped the whole interior
I sold complete interior minus front seats and front door panels plus ac system for $500 but I did install it for the buyer
Sold the PS pump lines and cooler for $100
So I am up a few dollars still and looking for cast turbo manifold, injectors, turbo, downpipe, bov, wastegate, fuel pump and intercooler with piping
I’m not to keen on FMU or engine management but I do want to stay obd0 just for ease unless somebody informs me different. I read the turbo guide and the engine management confused me like if I can mod my ecu or need a apexi safc and I may need other items if I missed something or you have a suggestion please let me know. I only plan on using name brand trusted components for my main essential items like turbo-garrett bov-hks wastegate-tial
I got 2 aluminum seats from CL for $35 today and made my own mounts using the stock ones.
So I have been trying to upload pictures but no luck
Upload them to a host, ie PhotoBucket, then post them here. Much easier imo.
Obd1 is much easier to tune and interface with. But some people still do use obd0. It’s moreso going to depend on who you plan on having tune your car and what is available in your area.
Mount when I started
Mount shaved smooth
Mount with the angle iron welded on, I’m not the best at welding by far.
In the car
The half radiator I made the top bracket to mount it and I’m moving the bottom mounts soon, the front end is off for the wire tuck shock tower repair and the clutch replacement. I’m also getting the other axle for the passenger side and finishing up looping the p/s rack.
So I took out the transmission today and will be cleaning it up and installing the new clutch and flywheel just waiting on my pilot bearing I had to order. Also going to install a new rear main seal.
Engine bay no trans
The trans still dirty even after a quick spray with the pressure washer
Stock clutch and flywheel next to the eclutchmasters 9lb flywheel and clutch
Stock flywheel was 18.8lbs and 30.8 with clutch and pressure plate
Eclutchmasters flywheel was 8.8lbs and 20.2 with clutch and pressure plate. That is over 10lbs less than the stock setup I will give a detailed review once this project is moving.
not bad at all that you are doing this on low budget.
My ultimate goal is turbo still not sure just how low budget this can be if I do it right I have my oil pan off right now since I dropped my trans and I did the rear main seal that was leaking. I am waiting on my pilot bearing to get here didn’t know that stores didn’t commonly stock it, so in the downtime I am going to weld in the oil return bung. Found a tuner local who suggested to go obd1 for tuning and can get me the jumper harness for 55 but I have to find the ecu and §§§§§ not sure what else is involved.
I got some dsm 510cc injectors today that were recently flow tested $25 off CL from a mechanic
I also bought a blox intake manifold that is not badged, some other b18 owners told me that I got lucky it was a rare find here in cali and good increase in flow with a stock look I only paid $60
After researching on her found out I wanted to go cast manifold with the wastegate centered on the runners. So I found a cast turbo manifold for b18 made by jdmsport for the super low price of $35 got to love craigslist!
Tial 38mm with 7-8psi spring for $40 off CL today
Before cleaning
After cleaning and paint
Mounted on the manifold
Excellent job so far keep up the good work!!!
Wtf!? How did you find a tial for $40? Lucky you man, cheapest I could find used was $175
I just check daily for the parts I need I found a mishimoto intercooler black 28in by 7.5in for 100 today guy said he will do $80 just gotta go pick it up and I just picked up a very clean apexi safc 2 for $100 I will post pictures of later
