Faded Carbon fiber hood? can i restore?

hey i am at college and i dont get to wash my car very often and it IS out in the sun a lot here in Florida when it doesnt rain and i just washed it tonite and it looked pretty damned good untill the hood dried! it was all glossy and clean then when the water dried it was all faded looking swirrly and hazey looking. you know when you wax when its dry it says look for a hazey look well thats what the damned thing look like.
i tried to wax it and that didnt work so i scrubbed that shit off and then i used some paint restorer type of stuff from meguires and it is supposed to restore finish and take car of those swirl scratches. and it didnt work to i took all that off and just washed it and it still look like crap.

anyway my point is... i saw where a member made his lenses ambery and nice and glossy. http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92114

there lol anyway i wanna know if i can do something like this to “restore” my hood. i want to:
lightly sand the hood with 1500 grit or 2000 and then clearcoat it and then wet asnd that with 1500 or 2000 and then polish it up with the stuff he used. will this work.? im desperate. its like the clearcoat melted off. or some shit like that its real rough but at the tip its smooth and normal in between the lights. any information is greatly appreciated! thanks guys :cross:

if you want it to look awesome, take it to a body shop and have them re-clear it. while you’re at it, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can have em throw in a little pearl in the color of your choice

i called a shop and they want 400 bucks for a new clear coat. :gay: i would rather buy a new one. im gonna sell the car or just use it for autx or race purposes soon. im getting a new car so i just want to make it look decent for now.

you could try it yourself, not sure how it would turn out rattle canning it though

eh what the hell

i might as well it wouldnt hurt it the way it looks now. im ashamed of the damned thing. i think im gonna try it this weekend and lay a fat ass layer of clearcoat on it. it’ll probably still be a little hazy but it might get better. hell if i had an extra sheet or 2 i would lay that over it and see what i can do. maybe i’ll give my buddy a call with some cf… never thought of that. then i could clear it. :cross:

just get it buffed.

will that really help?? my buddy has a buffer i think. i might try that b4 i send it to hell.

ya… sounds to me like its just the clear coat that faded… get some 3m finish restorer and buff away…

hot damn! ima try that and then if it doesnt work clear it myself. thankx for the help guys!

If you haven’t used a buffer before, just be careful. You can burn the paint/clear if you buff too long in one area.

Try a few different body shops. $400 seems a bit high for wet sanding, clearing, and then wetsanding and buffing.

so i should just keep it on the spot for a few second and move on or just make sure i keep it moving? wahts the best way?

keep it moving but do it uniform …ive seen alot of people just go crazy with the buffer and it comes out like ass …

with mine. I always use windows it puts like a wannabe clear on in for a week or so. if your like me you clean your car maybe 2 times a week. so keeping my wannabe clear on my car is not a prob!

anyone else with this problem? mine now did this.

^^^thats what my brother did to one of his hoods…kinda ricey but looked kinda cool too…it was a red pearl on a black car…it probably would of looked better if it was a red car…but i wouldnt mind trying that on mine with my jasper green DA…

one word … compound
but the idea of adding a lil pearl is kinda nice
