Failed Emissions test!

I’ve had this car since it was new, so I know everything that was done to it. (92 TRP db1)
Had to get a ‘Drive Clean’ done in order to renew my plate sticker.
Changed the oil & filter, drove it to the testing center just 10 mins away - FAILED big time - really high NOX, CO, HC. cha-ching $35
Changed the spark plugs, bottle of ‘Guaranteed 2 Pass’, set the timing (a little retarded from TDC because I was running hot)

Set up a re-test, but drove for 1hr on the highway to warm up the CAT to normal oper. temp.
Dropped off the keys to the testing center, the rotton %^&* left it sitting for 45 mins before looking at it (even though I had an appointment at 3:15) FAILED again, but this time much better. Cha-ching $17.

My CAT was changed just three years ago, but it was cheap - so I suspected it.

Brought it in again, had them order & install a new CAT. It passed!! (but just barely)
Great feeling to finally have it over with. New CAT & another test - Cha-ching $350.
At least the laws here would allow them to stop at $450 with a conditional pass.
I feel better now that I’m not polluting as much…hmmmm?
I also didn’t pollute walking to the garage to get my car

Congratulations?

Thanks, this is now my official winter beater.
Will have owned it 20 years this April.
It’s been a fabulous car, but may be looking at replacing it this spring (although I’ve said that before a few times)
