So I have the famous “Radiator Fan not working” problem on our DA’s. I did lots of research here and on HT, even got OEM Repair Manual… All of the wiring is good… checked with Multimeter.
Since I drive an 92 RS luckily for me… trouble shooting was easy. I jumped the connector that’s on the ECT Switch [Fan switch] and yes fan worked… but when I drive with connector plugged in into ECT Switch… it still doesn’t come on. … I replaced the switch it self with Non OEM and still nothing…
So my question is to RS owners… does your fan ever comes on??? and if so at what temperature??
Would love an answer too. I just replaced my rad. I filled it according to spec and then ran it with the radiator cap off until warm. One guide says wait till the fan comes on. It didn’t. So I shut off the car, added a bit to the overflow, and took it for a short drive and let it sit for 5 minutes. The temp gauge never went pass half way and the fan never came on. Granted it’s a cool night. But is there a spec for a temperature at which it comes on? Would it ever come on during a cool night?
Hmm, that seems very strange, although it may just not be getting hot enough. Have you tried letting the car idle for 20min watching the temp gauge? The temp can be found on page 23-107 of your Helms.
