Fans run an hour after shut off..weird.

OK guys I have a 91 integra and recently I have noticed that after driving it for a while and shutting it off the fans run for a period of time. I know this is normal in our cars but the fan stays on for at least a half an hour. Now at first I was thinking it was over heating and I wasnt noticing it but It doesnt. The cars temp gauge warms up fine and never hits half way. The fan has been doing this for about 3 months but I have had the car for over three years and it just started doing this winter and has never done it in the summer. The second thing that kinda gets me worried is the fact that when it rains and I drive it for a long period of time I notice smoke evaporating off my hood (car is painted flat black if that makes a difference) and coming from underneath my car.I dont have any of the plastic wheel wells covers or anything under my car so I didnt know if it was just excess water getting hot. Sitting in traffic it looks weird and I have never had a car do that. Should my engine be getting so hot that it slowly evaps water like that? So really those are my 2 problems so if anyone could suggest anything I would appreciate it.

Okay the vapor from your hood is normal older cars like ours dont have the fabric cloth sheild under the hood like the newer cars doo…so the engine heat makes the hood hott which causes the water on the hood to smoke a tad…

Your main problemmm can be your temperature sensor or switch it can be faulty…soo you might wanna get that checked out…ALSO CHECK THE LEVEL OF YOUR COOLANT JUST IN CASE

:think:i just notice my girls 2010 scion tc, hood evaporates water off to

thats normal dude why u scratchn your head

it is normal for the cars fan to kick on while the car is off. as far as the a water evaporating from the hood. you could be running a little hot. not something i would concern myself with if the temp needle didnt throw any warning signs

could be your fan control timer going bad

i had mine go bad and the fans would run after i shut off the car for a random amount of time until it got so bad that the fans would run until the battery died …thats when i knew it was time to replace it

it is inside the dash just to the left of the glovebox a quick search should show you the location

EDIT …i searched and your other thread on honda tech has the answer …haha

May sound strange, but my girlfriends Accord had a battery starting to wig out on her and it caused the fans to stay on about 15min after the car was off. The battery never really “died” but took it to Autozone and they tested it as failing. Ended up buying a new one and never had the problem again.

Well I hope its not the battery because I bought a new one back in january lol. Sorry I havent gotten back to this, I have been hella busy with work. Yesterday I cold started my car and turned it around in my driveway and shut it off (took all of 2 minutes) about 15 minutes after my car was shut off the fan turned on… So yea the problem is still htere. Im going to try and replace the RFMC and see if that helps. Ill let you guys know. Thanks for all the help.

you know I tunning my fuel psi with the car on and when i heard the fan turn on for the 3rd time i went in to turn the car off, everything shut off even the fan. I reopened the ignition to the last bump before you crack the engine to have the radio on and I noticed that the fan turned back on even though the engine was off.
I think you might have to look into your ignition switch since something has to be loose and making contact for your fan to stay on after shutoff.

your best bet is buying the repair manual to get a good look at he cooling electrical system.
so far it could be your radiator fan relay, engine coolant temperature switch, radiator fan control module, engine oil temperature switch.
