My car started to overheat as I was in alittle traffic today and I noticed my fans arnt kickin in. I checked the fuses checked the relays the have 1-2 ohms, the relays connectors have 12v, the fan switch has like .003v and the cooling fan had like .004v I even checked the radiator fan module it had power but on the condensor fan pins it had no volts. O and I jump both fans and the both kick on I’m friggin lost now. HELP PLZ LOL
Thanks
Sounds like you’re randomly testing things with the multi-meter not knowing what you’re looking for. Use the troubleshooting procedure in your Helms manual to test all the components you mentioned. It’s very straight forward. Most likely a relay or ECT switch issue.
x2
double check the relays that might be were ur problem is at
first cut the entire connection from the fan.find the relay on the RIGHT side of the radiator…find the power(from the harness end) cut it . connect it to the power of the fan and ground the other…will run whenever the key is engaged
Don’t listen to this advice. You DO NOT want the fan running whenever the key is in the ignition. The radiator fan system is setup to turn the fan(s) on under certain conditions only and you should keep it that way. Finding the problem is not rocket science, just do the basic troubleshooting, no need to ghetto rig your fans.
What advice is this? This is just masking the problem and will also hide even bigger problems down the line. With all do respect, don’t post advice if you don’t know what the hell your talking about.
OP, do what Colin said. Its not rocket science. Here’s a link to a thread on TI that should help you out.http://www.team-integra.net/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=7&TopicID=281339&ThreadPage=1

Ok thanks guys so I double checked the relays and the cooling fan relay seems to be shot so ill get one tomorrow and check in with you guys.
Thanks again for the help
funny, the way people think sometimes
So I changed the relays and still nothing.ugh so my friend said it could be the ect sensor I thnk its behind the block. The haynes manual said yel/grn wire and a black wire so I’m sure its it. Now he said unplug it and see if the fan comes on or jump it. Does this sound about right? Also idk if this matters but my coolant gauge works most of the time.
Once again terminology gets the best of us. PLEASE use extra caution when talking about ECT units and in general the difference between a “sensor” a “switch” and a “sending unit”.
Here’s some info regarding the different switches, sensors…etc which are often confused, where they are located, and what the wire colors are: http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?196564
Disconnecting the ECT switch will do nothing for you, it’ won’t tell you a damn thing. However, if you disconnect the switch and bridge the two terminals on the harness, this should turn your fan on (assuming the fan has the necessary power). The radiator fan is a ground switch system unlike what most would assume. This means that as long as the ignition is on, the fan has power, but it’s not grounded. As soon as the engine reaches temp, the ECT switch turns “ON” and supplies the Radiator Fan Control Module with ground, in turn supplying the fan with ground and completing the circuit.
Check your connections at the relay. I had this very problem on my car and I tracked it down to two bad connections at the relay.
