Fastest way to shave side moldings

i just bought another DA and want to shave the side moldings. my first DA i bondo’d the side moldings and don’t really want to go through that again because it was so time consuming. does anybody know any other way to shave my side moldings faster than bondo?

Weld in a filler plate . You will still have to use bondo but not as much . If your on a seriously tight budget then use yard sticks and screw them into the side , shave down alittle , then back fill with bondo .

dang you responded to my question pretty fast. do you happen to know where i can find a link with step by step instructions and pictures on how to do it properly? i searched through over 30 pages in the help section and wasn’t able to find any.

i used fiber glass mat and resin.

hey malicer, do you have a thread showing step by step (with pictures would be great) instructions on your method?

no i don’t i only have one door done so far im putting 4 new doors on my car and doing this to them before they go on.
i stripped everything from the door inc windows and all latches door handles etc.
layed it down on a bench cut my fiber glass mat into strips the same width as the indent and about 6 inches long i find the shorter strips are easier to handle then one big long one. i just filled in the indent behind the molding i didn’t make the hole door smooth like some people do. mixed resin and applied it to the mat as per instructions on the can. then sand smooth, fill any low spots if necessary.
prime and paint.

hey bud 8)

all i did was take some 22 gauge sheet metal ,cut to fit .then took the paint down where is was going to weld and weld it up ,jumping back and forth untill it was all welded up .Then grinded it down .Then i hit it all with 40 grit floppy and then 80 .Then filler .

Don’t use a yard stick or just use bondo .Its cheaper to just weld it.

just throwing bondo in there will cost you a bundle and it wont last .just shutting the door hard will make it crack lol And allso make the door wiegh like 50 pounds more .

ghetto for sure don’t listen to the above posts haha

another thing you can do is fiberglass mat it .Ive done this and it holds up pretty well .

take the door down to steel int he area your wanting to glass
take the mat and cut it into strips big enought to cover a protion of the door .( cut into 3 of 4 peices to cover the area)
then you mix up a batch of resin in a pan and then take the mat and soak it in the pan and tap with a paint brush

place it on the car and tap the bubbles out while getting it into place .

let it set up a bit and then repeat .at least to more times

so now you will have 3 layers of mat .knock it down with 80 grit and then mix up another batch or resin and brush it onto the whole area.

lets dry and sand it down .now mix up a batch of fiberglass jelly( allso called fiberglass powder)

let it setup and sand down while makeing sure you leave enough material to hit with 220 and 360

block prime block fill sand block prime ,block untill good to go haha

hope his helps a bit .

easiest way is welding though

dang you dont happen to have pix do you?

just remember do it right once and never do it again. I took 5 hours on a fender just getting it right and paintting it.

Always use sanding blocks. For perfect lines put all of the pieces back on the car and then sand it.

Try looking at this post may help you . there are a lot pix showing how to do it.
