Few questions about blower resistor, and selector switch.

So I finally forked out almost $50 and bought a new blower motor resistor.
I put it in, and found out that 3rd blower fan speed is gone. I got my first and second back though.
Does this sound like my blower selector switch is messed up?

I know that it directly sends power to the resistor. One day I lost 3rd fan speed. I thought it was the resistor finally quitting.
I might of shorted it by having the switch kinda between 3rd and 4th. Is it possible to take the switch apart and clean it like I did my automatic selector switch?
Thanx and tell me what you think.

If you put this under the electrical section im sure fcm could help you out

I was going to, however I am pretty sure it is just the selector switch. I was messing with it today and got speed 3 back until I had to turn it down. Im just getting another switch if I cannot recondition it.

It probably is your switch. I’ve gone through a few resistors until I finally got a brand new one, yet I still don’t have the 4th speed. If you replace yours let us know if it fixes it, cause I’d like to fix mine.

Same boat here. My battery terminal came loose. I pulled over and fixed it and I noticed my 1st and second speed were dead… All was fine before that f’ing terminal came off. I’m not sure what it is, but it gets blazing hot in my car with the other speeds :squint:

for the OP i have an extra switch somewhere, I’ll look for it, I’ve had it listed in my FS thread for awhile and no bites, sell it fairly cheap.

For the person missing 1 and 2, you probably have an issue it your resistor if you haven’t already replaced that. The resistor doubles/triples up on itself, using the same coils over for different speed settings.

Thanks for the info man, much appreciated. Am I correct in saying that the blower motor resistor sits above the blower motor and has four male prongs?

You are correct, should be held down by 2 fillips head screws to the housing and have a 4 wire connector to it, by default if the resistor goes out completely you still have the high setting, so you can remove the resistor and still have the high setting for the blower.

I went through this. searched my dealer service manual for a few days to find the electrical diagram to explain it all.

You saved me a headache in trying to figure this out. Thank you again, I’ll be fixing this today.

No problem, that’s what we are all here for. If you need anything more just let me know, having the Dealer service manuals became a big help for me!

To the OP again, found pics, still haven’t had the chance to look for the switch yet, but I’m near positive where it’s at, $10 +shipping and it’s yours.

When I got my car it was missing the first 2 fan speeds. I lost #3 out of the blue, but I think it is because I had the switch between 3rd and 4th, so I might of shorted #3 out. All other speeds work just fine after the (brand new) resistor install. My old resistor had a burned coil on #1 and #2.

Im getting a new switch soon and I will post if it fixed the problem.

i just got my motor blower reisister, but haven’t had time to install it yet…im not sure what your problem could be but only my high works…yea you get the picture…

Hey Ziggy7, my 1 and 2 speeds havent worked since I bought the car 5 years ago. I will take that resisitor off of your hands.

Email for shipping info and payment?

Thanks

sorry man i don’t have a resistor, only the switch. the resistor is a completely seperate piece.

sorry

Dammit! Thanks anyway though, at least I know now why mine doesnt and hasnt worked…

Off to find a resistor…

Junkyards are your friend. Or go onto AcuraOEMparts.com I think they are roughly $30 from there.
