Few questions.buying a DA

Im going to buy a DA off my friend for about 2k.It has about 135,xxx miles,he said 3 and 4th gear grinds sometimes and i need to replace the cam seal.he also told me it might need some engine work in the future but he trust the car. it got tokico blues with some no name springs.motor is completely stock. it got front and rear strut bars. Is this a good buy?

IMO no. 2k is way to much for a car that needs and is going to need work on the motor.

Too much money for a DA that has 3rd and 4th gear grinding. Many people over price their broken/junk hondas too much these days. See ad: http://appleton.craigslist.org/cto/1994833519.html

Thanks guys. What would be a good offering price to offer him? Im trying to find a good DA in my area buy alot of them are pretty janky condition.

I wouldn’t pay no more then 5/600 bucks if i had to rebuild/replace the motor. Even then, that’s still a little high.

Y’all do realize the car only has 135k miles on it, right? What kind of shape is the body in? Beat to hell or in decent shape? If the body is in good shape I’d pay $1500 for it. Low mileage is hard to beat IMO. If it beats to hell, no more than $1000. What kind of engine work will it need? That’s kind of a vague description to be honest.

2 grand for a car in that good of shape? What the hell do you mean “junk”? I’m confused as hell about y’alls opinions. That’s a good deal on that CRX.

Edit: pics didn’t show up on my iPhone. Haha ok, I see now.

the body is not bad actually. the car used to be red but he got it painted at the shop and its all black no.However he did get a flat tire and it dented the front fender. he has a extra fender but he didnt put it on yet because the fender is red and he hasnt had time to paint it. other then that the body is pretty much in good condition. Id get it for looks but the only thing that scares me is the motor.

Btw its bone stock.its just lowerd and got front/rear struts and a magnaflow muffler

i’d offer about 1600-1800 depending on the work thats needed on the engine.
for 135k miles on the odometer thats pretty good.
around here DAs tend to sell for more that 2k for cars over 200k miles. overpriced for sure.

1st off take a look under the car for any rust or oil leaks, worst thing anyone can do when buying a car is getting one that has rust damage under the body. You might think its not so bad or its easy to replace parts at first but trust me. Once a car has rust damage its done there is no fixing or replacing parts. Also judgeing by the repairs you say it may need you could be looking at $1100 wich is almost a full engine rebuild, I dont think your going to be happy paying for it when you just paid $2k for the car. And Id stick with the 92-93 for the obd1 incase you want to do a swap later down the road.

honestly I say you wait it out and do your homework on what exactly you want for your own car and shop around. It took me 6 months of calls and looking at cars before I found my 91 DA9 GS with gsr leather interior, SI rims and jdm 1pc headlights for $1500 and it came with the jdm Y1 lsd tranny. sure I drove about 3 hrs from my house to go get it and it was worth it. Just wait and look around on this site for local cars being sold or on craigslist, you might have to be willing to make a long trip if you find one you really like.

Hope you dont mind but I did a quick search in your local area and found these cars that seem like something I would get.
Im sure you can hustle this guy into letting the car go for $2300 or less, also you might not need to smog it for a transfer of title if smog was done within the last 3 months. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/2001700567.html

Bone stock never modded, only down is no power features or sunroof. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/2001695985.html

this is super cheap and has a b20 motor, you can do a b20v later down the road. Only thing is your gonna have to find a shop that will smog and pass it for around $200 under the table… http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/2001418577.html

this one seems ok and you may have to really get under it with a flashlight for anything he didnt list, also get receipts from the swap done.

this one is pretty nice with its Konig helios http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/2001208349.html

And what scares you about the motor? Is it knocking or something like that? Of it’s just because it’s old, don’t worry. I’ve had 2 DA’s that I both bought with over 200k miles and the motors were great other than some minor oil leaks. Those motors will go well over 300k without being rebuilt easily as long as the preventative maintainence (timing belt and water pump, tune up etc.) is done on time.

Wow nice find DA6! If those DAs were sold here I’d like to buy them all. There arent many G2s in WI that arent rusted.

On that list DA6 posted I would take the DA with the lojack only downside is the salvage title. 2nd would be the red one. See how much lower they will go without the rims. 3rd would be the white rs; being stock thats a plus along with the timing and water pump already serviced. Last would be the two black DAs seeing that they have some running issues but they are cheap if youre up to finding out whats wrong with them.

I listened to the car. No knocking and it idled fine. The only part was the 3rf and 4th gear grind. I don’t plan on doing a swap. Just to get me around. I used to have a da with 190xxx miles and motor blew up and I had for about 3 month. I did love the car tho so I want to buy another one. I do trust my friend cuz he babies the car. Seems like the only leak was the cam seal. But when I get a chance I’ll look under the car for leaks. The car is pretty slammed too so there might be oil pan leak?

I wouldn’t say your worried about the motor, I’d say you are worried about the trans then. Find a YS1 trans or just have the one in it rebuilt. Just tell him to knock off the price of a rebuild and see if he’ll go for that. Use that as bargaining

First things I look for when looking for a da
1 any rust
2 bushings and mounts, chances are your T/A are shot and maybe even the motor mounts
3 anything else body, interior aftermarket
sounds to me like what you have might be an alight buy. I wouldnt pay more then $1000-$1200 from the way you describe it

FYI most mechanics offer a service called a buyer inspection at an average cost of about$75. then you know exactly what your buying

I have a 92 GS swapped with b17a1 that I might just sell. interested?
