First Car and First Build Pics**

Well im new to the forums, ive been scaning for awhile but i never really posted anything till now, i really like how everyone is supportive for the most part. I think this is already a great site. Well back in November i got my first car, a 1991 Integra RS.The car had some minor problems, like the clutch needs replaced and rear shocks are starting to go out, no biggys. I was exstatic when I found this car because it only has around 125,000 origional miles. I thought it was a good deal so i jumped on it. Opinions welcome  BTW sorry if the pics are big, couldnt figure out how to down size them

Anyway, on with the build, I attend a technical high school and my technical area is collision repair. I talked to my instructor and asked him if i would be able to bring my car in to do a full paint job. After a couple days of persuasion i was allowed. Well on my way to school the next day to take my teggy into shop my dad re ended me in his jeep :frowning: so thats something else i had to fix. So i decided to buy a rear bumper off of craigslist and just try t fix the rear filler piece, that was a nightmare and i still havent got it completely straight. My plans for paint is too lay down a few coats of SS black then clear coat it with purple flake, some people may think thats gay but o well i think it will be bad ass. I also decided to shave my rear emblems. i decided to powder coat my rims black to get rid of the crappy old paint.

This is my progress so far (: with much more to come

you seem to be on the right track… i cant comment on that paint job. just make sure you get the door jams and the engine bay. if your going to do it, at least do it right… show some engine bay pictures and what kind of suspension is on it?

I’m planning on getting the paint for the jams next week, I’m just gonna spray them a factory pact black and clear coat them, when I go to replace the clutch I’m debating to pull the whole engine and spray the bay then, or attempt to do it now. And I think just ebay coilovers, I couldn’t find a product name or anything on them.

nice car. what exhaust is that?

Did you weld the holes for the rear emblems before you put filler on them?

X2 on what herb asked. And I think the paint sounds pretty sick. But did I read that correctly that the door jams are gonna be black without the purple flake??? May as well go the extra mile and do it up right man. And please let me talk you out of the ebay coilovers. They came on my db2 along with kyb gr2s and let me tell you it fuckin blows. I’ve heard some people actually having luck with the ebay coils tho on miatas and stuff so maybe you will like them. Just get a half way decent shock at least.

I welded little squares just big enough to cover the holes, then grinded it down and covered it with fiberglass reinforced body filler. And the only reason i said about not doing the jams the purple flake is because i wouldnt be able to spray it in the booth with the doors open. But you are totally right, mise well go all out if im doing this much. I completely agree on the coilover thing. I hate the idea of ebay coilovers, once i get enough cash i want to get a set of f&f type one’s. Plus it looks liked someone tried to lower the rear coilovers with a punch or screwdriver, So they’re all chewed up.

you are off to a great start… and I might add… your teg for being a back east car is pretty damn clean considering all the damn salt they toss on roads out that way

Look forward to seeing your progress bud

Thanks man  and yeah alot of cars get turned into rust buckets with all the salt. They go way over board with it during winter.

Well i got some more work done today, painted the trunk jams, door jams, and part of the front end. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Oh and in case any ones is wondering, overspray really isnt a big deal since im gonna paint it.

I forgot how low my car sat, its been so long since shes been on the ground <3

paint job looks good so far…

Looks good to me! I’m a big fan of body work and paint, so that is a big plus in my book.

If I were you I’d put the flake in the black basecoat, then pure clear on the top.

If you put the flake in the clear, you’ll run into issues when wetsanding… the flake will be sitting on the surface, and when sanding, you’ll be sanding the flake… it will distort BADLY.

The best cure is to do: Basecoat, flake mixed with clear, then solid clear on top (this is “basically” how a tri-coat paint job works)

Or: Basecoat with flake added, then clear over the top.

It’s typically easier to do the second method as it is getting rid of one complete step. Less chance for mistakes, and less time to do. A win-win.

Thanks! My plan is to do the basecoat, mix the flake with clear, then spray two or threee coats of solid clear.

But you are right about the less time and less chance for mistakes if mixnig it in the basecoat. Thats how my instructor said about doing it. So of course me being the student I am. I decided to do some research.

So I went on to many forums and what not, and from all the opinions and pictures of cars i’ve seen, in my opinion the basecoat, mixed clear, then solid clear looks the best. So thats how i would like to do it, but if something comes odd comes up, i would just put it in the basecoat.

Thansk for all the input!
