first time out, YIKES 15.8?

hey guys i just took my car to the track and ran down the strip for my first time ever. it was fun, but my times were not. lol. i think i have a slipping clutch and a boost leak somewhere. but anyways here ya go.

60ft: 2.615
1/8th:10.554 @ 73.67
E.T: 15.82 @92.04 mph

so i know that these are horrible times for my setup (see end). but with a good 60ft what can i get in the 1/4? i also belive to have a slipping clutch and maybe some boost leaks.

Setup:
b18a 145k miles
t3 .42 .48
Ram horn mani
~7-8 psi
3 in DP into a stock cat and 2.25 crush bent exhaust (killing me)
turbo edit on street tune with -.9 degree retard/psi

comments welcome, i know it sucks, earlier in the night i hit a 2.36 60ft but ran way worse do to a few leaks that we fixed before the run shown above. im dissapointed in the my turbo car didnt even break 14’s , but i think alot is the clutch and tune.

you should be into the 14s easily. id say work on your launches and try to keep the tires from spinning. shit id say you could prolly break into the 13s with a turbo.

ur traping WAY WAY low for turboed car

yah work on 60fts

Those times are kinda slow for a turboed car. But I don’t really care, I respect you for having a passion for the car. As long as your boosted, you have my respects.

damn, that is pretty low for a boosted teg. but i’d put a new clutch on it, drive it for a few weeks or so to break it in. and by drive, i mean, casual driving. nothing hardcore. and after about 1000 miles or so, you should be safe to come back to the track for another pass.

also, check EVERYTHING from the manifold, to the vacuum lines, oil lines and turbo housing etc. check your intercooler/charge piping. all the hoses, fittings, and welds where applicable for any damages. hope everything works out well. boosted tegs with relatively similar setups easily break into low 14’s.

hope it turns out good for you, because i’ve had better times on my internally stock and mild bolt on LS motor. when i’m boosted, i’m hoping for 12’s  11’s would be exquisite.

yea im well my clutch litteraly just free revs at the top of 3rd and 4th so when i get the clutch ill post new times

What should I keep my RPM’s at when I launch? I have a short ram intake, exhaust and a 5spd. Everything else is stock.

for a relatively stock car, and also depending on how good of traction your tires have. i’d say rev to AROUND 2500-2700rpms and then pop the clutch. it will take plenty of practice, but when i was using a nice set of 195/60R-14 Michelins (can’t remember the model, but for what they were, they were really GRIPPY) on my stock wheels, thats about what i was launching at. anything higher and you’ll find yourself spinning too much and and actually moving forward even less. you’ll probably have to lift to about half throttle immediately after dropping th clutch to avoid spinning too much.

especially with a relatively low powered front wheel drive car, you need as much traction as you can get to actually run pretty quick. i say a good half second of wheelspin (when your launch and throttle position is JUST right) your car’s actual forward momentum will be pretty equivalent to the engines rpms etc.

just lots of trial and error involved. i have a set of Toyo Proxes on my car now and i can launch at a little higher of rpms now because those things have STUPID good grip. i’ve been launching at around 3500 lately and on a video i have (its on cheap video cassette so i cant upload at the moment) i launched at just above 3500, feathered the throttle just a bit to keep everything in check, and it looked as if i laucnched a boosted LS. fucker just JUMPED out of the hole, it was pretty impressive looking but the end result wasn’t much better than you’d expect out of a stock LS. i believe it was a 15.5 or something to that effect.

At 6000 feet of elevation I ran a 16.5 (bone stock)… although I need to learn how to launch better as I was getting terrible spin from the driver-side (damn non-LSD). Going to try a run down in Phoenix.

wow, they have a track at 6000’ in new NM? i had a buddy from there and he said it was mostly flat/see level and a shit load of bugs. As i lived in laramie WY i know that elavation is a bitch without a FI, i think i had like 7.7 compression ratio up there on my stock b17, man did that suck balls

but yeah, with a turbo i would say 14’s easy. list your setup and tuning

well i did a valve lash adjustment and a few other things and it seems to be runnning a little better, but i still have a leak at the flange where the turbo meets the manifold. i keep blowing out parts of gaskets, anyways i went back to the track again and was still only able to pull off a 15.4. this is on my big heavy ass 17’s to. im gonna get it tuned soon and i think that will make a huge difference. and also to the guy above i been launching my car at 4000 rpm and its leaving the whole without spinning to muchanyways here the time.

First off, if the leak is in between your exhaust mani and your turbo, then it is probably hurting your spool time and boost capabilities. Another thing that I would suggest doing, is unbolting your exhaust after the 3in. downpipe. That should make a pretty big difference and boost you up a 1 or 2 psi. Your exhaust is chokin you right now. So I say, new clutch, fix exhaust leak, unbolt exhaust after downpipe, and you easily have 14’s.
