whatssss happenin guys… been a while for me.
ok here is the deal:
i am trying to figure out how wide i can go here. i am shooting for 17 x 8, hopefully running a meaty 225 tire on there. the wheels are being custom made, i can have any width, and any offset i want.
i have measured this: there is 1 1/4" gap between the wheel/tire, and the suspension knuckle (at the top). wheels on the car now are 17 x 7, +40.
i have not measured this: how much room do i have to move the new wheel towards the fender?
calculations:
1.going to 8" wide, means adding 1/2" to both sides of the rim (in respect to what is on the car now). this moves the inner edge of the rim 1/2" closer to the knuckle, and the outer edge 1/2" towards the fender, (or possibly sticking out, which i do not want)
- to remedy this, im moving the whole rim towards the inside of the car, 1/2", or 12.5mm. this will add positive offset to the new wheel. we have now moved the new inside edge of the rim a total of 1" towards the knuckle, leaving 1/4" clearance. is this enough for tire deflection under load/turning?
3.currently at +40, adding 12.5mm, gets us to +52.5mm.
i will be rolling front and back fenders, and pulling if needed. suspension wise, everything is adjustable, so no issues there. for the height, tires may tuck only a hair. car is not my DD, only nice weather ripper & shows. track duty conversion starts next year.
interested to hear from those who have experience with this, or possibly ran a similar size. thanks all.
