fixed rust, looks like crap, help(pics)

ok so before i did anything to wheelwell it looked just like the piece to the left of it so it looks a hell of a lot better than it did but it still looks almost like a sticker, the color is almost exact and everything but how do i get that outline to blend in? i sanded throughout the stages of it but i still got that line, is it cuz i used black primer? i donno how do you think i could fix it? thanks
ps after the paint dried i wiped the area with water and is why it is shinny

You need to cut it out to fix it right. But to make what you did look a little better you need to feather the paint out at least an inch around the area you are fixing.

And take off the rubber wheel liners and do it right. But be warned to open a can of worms when you pull them off, judging by the rust you have.

it is about an inch out in each direction from the rust, just seems like taping the area off will always result in a visible line like that, i dont think black primer helped, should i go over the lines with a coat or two of red?

is it just attached by an adhesive?

i took off my rubber wheel liners to begin with, they hold in mosture and salt causing the rust…

so i should just rip it off then, i don’t have any desire to have it anyways…

Just be warned that pulling them off can reveil more problems since you have that level of rust. Meaning the liners can be holding things together a bit. But yeah when I got my car, I pulled those off.

I heard that Honda recommends changing them, or cleaning them out every four years, which nobody does.

you still didn’t feather the edge of the paint. In other words you need to sand the line down until it is smooth. If you are doing it by hand it’s gonna take a while to do it because after you do that you are gonna have to repeat the same thing over 3 more times with different grits of sand paper and then you should be able to primer it. If you have access to a compresser and a da sander they will be your best friend doing this

I see what you mean, i have the same rust spots on the otherside rear wheel well so maybe I will look into renting a sander or asking around for one. Thanks for the help

Those things are the REASON all four of my wheel wells are clean…my car has been in Columbus (Ohio) all of it’s life so that’s pretty crazy. Mine seem to actually come up onto the body of the car though…the only rust it has is a bit below the pass. side rear window and on the hatch…not even any on the frame.

i wish i could take my fender trim off. its already rusted. damn ohio winters!
