The release for my trunk and gas tank doesn’t work. My trunk also won’t stay up on its own. Any suggestions ?
I’m not sure about the trunk/gas latches fix, but you can always try WD-40 at both ends and see what happens.
The struts that hold up the hatch are prob worn out, go to any auto parts store (do you have Autozone in Canada?) and buy new ones. They are pricey, but the problem will get worse as the weather gets colder.
Pop the plastic cover off of the area with the two levers for trunk release and fuel door release. It just pops off. Now, look to see if the two cables are still intact. I know that my hatch release cable is rusted out and broken (moisture in the carpet = gets on metal cable = eats it away). I’m not sure what is involved in replacing this, as I rarely use my hatch anyways (stereo in back). My fuel door still opens, so I’m happy there.
Anyhow, check those cables out and see. BTW: a bit of white lithium grease on the latch of the trunk can never hurt.
Oh, and those gas shocks that hold the hatch up aren’t too costly – shop around, as the price seems to vary greatly. Easy plug’n’play installation too. Hell, I think Wal-Mart even installs them for under $10.
