Hey guys, I just bought some mesh GSR rims and they have a few nicks and light curbing on the lip.
I was wondering how to fix the nicks and curbage myself?
I was thinking about just sanding them down and bondoing them. Would that work okay? Does anybody see and problems with doing that?
I’m going to be stripping, sanding, primering, and painting them anyway. So the bondo won’t be too much more work or anything like that.
Any help or feedback is greatlly appreciated.

If you are going to refinish it anyway, scotchbrite usually works for small stuff. If you have air or power tools, get the disk.
So you’re saying to just sand them down? I’ll still need to use bondo though right?
adamm- DO NOT use bondo on the rims. Should have asked me when you were picking them up, I was polishing some rims in whats left of my garage. Hit me up and I’ll let you know how to fix those. Oh, I can get you wheel locks too.
Okay I work at a car dealership so I think I can help you on this one because we do fix light knicks and whatnot on rims…
Okay, first off, you have to know whether or not you can fix it yourself. You have to be honest with yourself. I’m being very general but if the knick or curbage is slight…meaning it’s very surfacey and IT’S ONLY ON THE OUTTER EDGE, then what you can do is get a dremel, use one of the sand things, and gently sand it down and it will look as good as new, that’s what we do.
Someone suggested bondo…NO! If you have to go to the extent of thinking of bondoing, then what your rim needs is a good sanding, then painting, refinishing, then baking.
Again, use your own judgement and what I just gave you was a high generalization on what to do. Basically for the most part, if you think all you need to do is sand it, then go for it, but if it needs more, go to a wheel shop.

Okay, they can just be sanded down. I was just thinking about saning down the curbed areas a bit and then smoothing them out with bondo glaze. There aren’t any big chunks or anything. I can just blcok sand the entire lip or sand with a dremmell. Thanks for everyones help.
Is there a product that is designed to act as a metal filler?

i did a couple of my rims with a very fine file, and 1000g sand paper. . . came out nice.
There is a type of metal filler out there. Actually there are a few out there. I don’t think they’d work in his application though.
