Hey all. I have a slight problem. I have a 93 B18A1 4 door auto. Bone stock. 143xxx miles on it. I was pulling into work Friday and noticed my oil light flashing. I pulled into the parking spot and turned the car off. I lert it sit for a few seconds and cranked it right back up. No light, initially. After a few seconds it came back on and started flashing again. Since I was at work and didn’t really have time to look at it, all I did was check the oil. It was fine. After work I went out to the car, started it up. The light only flashed for a second or two. I drove it home, no problems. At red lights I could smell oil burning. I get home at night and wasn’t able to investigate any further. My teg has never leaked a drop of oil the few years I’ve had it. The next morning there is a puddle under car. I poke my head under the car and there is oil leaking from the intake side of the engine. Even a lil is dripping from the exhaust maybe 18 inches from the manifold. Today befroe work I added some oil to the engine and started it up to try and find the oil leak. At that time oil light only flashed once or twice then stopped. I drove the car up the street for a lil test. The light never came on. The car ran fine. I drove it to work, still no light. When I got to work the amount of burning oil was a lil worse than when it first started. The research I did was very vague in helping to diagnose my problem. I read that it could be the oil sending unit, the oil pump, or a number of connectors. Is there any info you guys may be willing to offer?
Check your oil…you may have extremely low pressure…
top the oil up, then install a pressure gauge in place of the sender. see what it reads
Is there excessive oil residue around the back of the oil pan? Sending units on these are known to start leaking and making it look like a bad oil pan gasket.
The blinking light means the ECU detected a sudden loss of oil pressure. Does the blinking stop if you stop the car shut off the ignition and turn it back over? if the blinking is consistent it could indicate a failing oil pump also.
Most importantly do as Welfare said and get an oil pressure gauge on there to get a reading ASAP. that will help determine whether it is a sending unit or oil pump. means the difference between a 8 dollar part or few hundred dollar repair.
