Floor Jack Suggestions

I have a floor jack that came with some jack stands. I’m too lazy to jack up all four points and do things that way, so I started to use an Autozone scissor jack for the crossmember and such. Well I was looking at my axles yesterday for damage and while in the process of lowering the car off the scissor jack it broke, almost falling at me.

So what I’m looking for is a floor jack that goes higher than the cheap-o hydraulic jacks you can buy at Autozone and other parts stores. I saw some at Sears for around $100, but does anyone know of any that are a little cheaper? I also saw a $70 SUV floor jack just like the cheap hydraulics ones but extends to 21’’, does anyone have any experience with these at all?

For the money, it’s hard to beat the Harbor Freight Jack. It also nice because it sits really low(if you’re car is lowered). These jacks are nice as well, but a little more pricey.

My brother bought some Takata LDS ramps. Those things are pretty cool and is a hell of a lot better than scissor jacking the car up high enough to get the floor jack under it.

I was thinking about getting a set of those as well, but both of the jacks in my previous post fit under the car no problem and it’s pretty damn low.

I’ve heard the Harbor ones are “cheap and break a lot” By your post I’m guessing you have one of these. How’s it working out?

My car is lowered, and I never really had problems getting any jack under it since I’m so buff I just lift the whole car up, lol… jk.

I’ve had my harbor freight jack for about 2 years or so and it’s still working great. If it broke now, I’d feel like I got my money’s worth and wouldn’t have a problem buying a new one. Ideally though, you’d have a shop jack for everyday home use and just use the harbor freight one for race days(it’s really light which is nice for taking it places). With limited use, I could see them lasting a long time.

i second for the Harbor Freight jack, mine works great.

is there a better jack for someone like me, who will use it maybe twice a year for “race days” and primarily needs one that can be used in my garage. It would be used only for my car, we have one already for general use but it doesn’t fit under my car. so I need a jack to use once or twice a month when doing maintenance, etc. also, how does that 14 inch lift work for you? ours goes to 14 inches, and that is barely enough to get my car onto jackstands at the front. I have to put them in at the lowest setting, lower the jack, add a few 2x10s underneath it, then raise again. I was thinking of getting this one instead, anyone know anything about it?

A bit more expensive, but it does lift higher and has a lifetime warranty.

think I’m gonna wait until I lower my car again for the summer, then measure ans see how low a jack I need to lift it.

Just a heads up for anyone still looking for a low clearance jack. I found one at Costco thats got a 3 1/2 in. minimum saddle hieght and um… darn, I forgot was the max hieght was. But it has around a 3 ton weight capacity and the thing only costs 75 bucks. I figure if it doesnt work that great, at least you didnt spend 150 bucks or more on it. I havent gotten one yet, but just letting yall know. Latez.
