Fluidampr???

Has anyone used one of this before??? Anyone had any problems or heard of anything bad about this??? It would go on a b16a. It replaces the crank pulley right???

I’ve been researching crank pulleys like a mofo, and have yet to hear ONE bad thing about these. They don’t save much weight vs. a stock pulley, but they set the standard for dampening crank vibrations, and they’ll eliminate PS & AC, I believe.

If you have the money to burn, go for it!

Got one going in on the car hopefully soon. It’s nice since the Accessory pulleys can be removed. I’ll try and post some pics up tomorrow.

only thing i can see wrong is when the fluid part ruptures. then what happens? does the pulley completely fall apart?

same thing that happens when the rubber on the stock pulley disentegrates…it breaks and you get a new one

but the rubber one doesn’t usually fully dissinegrate. just the metal pulley seperates from the rubber. well at least all the cars ive worde on just seperate. i have never seen one where it fully collapses. fluid on the other hand will fully collapse and blah blah blah

So go for it, or not??? It replaces the crank pulley right??? Thanks for the responds.

your money not mine. but what are you looking to gain out of it?

Reliability to have my engine last longer.

a lot of memebers here have well over 200,000 miles and are still running strong. it’s about maintenence, not add ons

I know that I’ve been in the oil industry for 8 years. But when your running boost and adding aftermarket parts to you car it’s a little different then stock!! Things wear faster. Thanks though.

More power dude…
I wish I could afford one.

I’d personally NEVER run a fluidampr. It’s not for high RPM engines. If your engine has a max redline of 6K I’d say its OK but other wise use an ATI performance damper. It is byfar the best out there and it can be rebuilt. They just came out with a street version for the B-serries with all three pullies. The power steering pulley is 4 rib vs the DA V-belt. I prefer the 4 rib anyways so I’d get the 4-rib power steering pump pulley sold by Unorthodox racing to fit the DA powersteering pump. On my own car I made a custom powersteering high pressure hose and used a DC pump with the ATI crank damper.

The main reason why I favor the ATi is because the elastrometric ring design is the only one used from any manufacturer. The OEM one is designed the same way. I ran an unorthodox racing one for a week and the noise from the engine made me switch to the ATI. It gave me a clue what would happen if you didn’t have a damper. None the less, It also gave me a clue why I should choose one wisely. If you look at any of the fastest imports drag racing (i.e. bullish motor racing, Titan motorsports, paul efantis, etc) today they are all running 2JZ-GTE engines with ATI damper and would trust none other.

So if I went with ATI I would have to change the power steering pulley and belt???

If it’s designed like OEM then why bother?

Yes the ATI pulley is designed for a 4 rib belt vs the v-belt. You can either use a 4 rib belt with an unorthodox racing p/s pump pulley p/n#010640802 or use the entire p/c pump and bracket from the 94+ DC chassis integra with a custom power steering hose like I did or not use the power steering at all.

The ATI pulley is lighter that the OEM, It has better dampening than any other pulley out there even the OEM one especially at high RPMs. It uses a closed design rather than an open design like the OEM one (i.e. will never come apart like the OEM). It is rebuildable and the orings can be purchased with different durometers from them to suit the different power and RPM needs (consult ATI about this). The hub is steel and is pressed into the crank usually with the OEM bolt but will require a puller to remove it. This ways the pulley will never spin over the snout of the crank and tear it up.

I’ve seen many b-series dampers and would favor the ATI over any of them. The fluidampr is a viscous coupling but in the high RPMs we’ve found that they harmonics multiply exponentially. Which can be rather destructive for powerful engines. The only other one I’ve seen is the one on Erick Racing’s all motor drag car. It uses a damper from fisher concepts which originally started making dampers for the Harley wierd banked low tech junk engines. I’d definitely stay away from theirs.

But that pulley says it’s for a b17 & b18??? Will it work on the b16a??? Thanks for the help if all I have to buy is the ps pulley and I can use the ATI then I will go with ATI.

It will work just fine for your B16A
