ive searched and havent found a clear cut answer, first off im new to the forum and the DA, ive had a few hondas, currently own a CB7 and BB2 and the DA, which i love. it has one pieces on it and had a horrible hack job on it. very bad wiring where they tapped into the back of the plug on the headlight switch and grounded under the dash, a mess of wires and the headlights were plugged in bare to the back of the bulb.
well i soldered new sockets for the headlights and cleaned that up, the problem im having is the fogs dont come on for nothing in the world. fuse is fine, bulbs are new, the fog lamp switch lights up when i press it in. im stumped, i wired the fog lights into the black and red wires i found in the harness by the headlights, am i missing something? somebody help me out here.
i dont have the means to test right now, im at a loss for words with this, is there another way to hook them up? maybe an aux. switch with inline fuse? i just wanna see my city lights again and im gonna redo the underdash harness when i get a chance so i will re-wire the fogs the right way then.
i guess it would be less work, problem is, the wiring harness for the lights, those plugs were cut and the only wires i found after wiring the headlights to some aftermarket pigtails for the headlights were black and i believe red and black or blue…nothing else. the fuse is good, ive tried two switches…bulbs are new…they worked when they were hacked as mentioned above…what color are the wires for the fogs? is it possible i wired them wrong?
The stock fog light leads, [from fog light relay] are red/black, [careful, the park light leads are also red/black] at some point between the relay and the fog light the red/black changes to a red/blue, not sure if that’s at a plug or just a connection, maybe a pigtail on the fog light bulb housing.
Sounds like you have checked everything except the fog light relay.
ok i will double check everything…i will pull back the cover on the harness and check…its just a pain in the ass, they used to work as soon as you tunr the headlights on, no turning off unless you turned the headlights off…it was a mess.
well when i rewired my headlights i pulled the trim piece off and checked everything, the wire was cut for the defogger but nothing hooked up. so it doesnt look like it, and FCM the fog light switch light on the button for the fogs lights up when you press it but no fog lights come on. im stumped.
If the fog light indicator on the switch lights up when you turn it on it means the fog light switch is getting power, [normally that power comes from the left low beam head light fuse, fuse 4 - 10A].
The fog light “rewire” in Teg Tips suggests you connect the fog light switch power, [input] to the rear window defog switch power so the fog lights can be turned on without turning on the head lights, not the best way to do that IMO, but it does not sound like that has been done in your case.
Question, do you have to have the head lights on for the fog light switch to work, [indicator light to turn on]?
Does the ign. switch have to be on for the fog light switch to work?
With the above said, power for the fog light switch, [wherever it is comming from] is not the same power as the fog light power, unless the fog light switch has been rewired to fuse 19, [fog light fuse]
Until you get a multimeter or at least a test light it will be very difficult to find what the problem is, at this point all we know for sure is that the fog light switch is getting power and that it’s a pretty good bet that the fog light switch is good, but I would not bet more then a few $$$ on that as it is possible that the fog light switches you tried may also have been bad.
You need to bite the bullet and spend the $20 and get a multimeter, you would know by now what the problem is.:tapfing:94
