So… I was do some cleaning in the interior and organizing my trunk, And all day at my class i was taking wheels on and off cars.
Inside my trunk i found my orbital buffer, And got to thinking… My wheels are foggy from my lack of cleaning over the winter… And i happened to have some “blue moon”, clear plastic cleaner… and mothers clear plastic polish.
So I made a attempt at taking off my wheels, got the car up on the jack and tried to take off the lug nuts to the front driver side wheel… it wouldnt budge i even stood and bounced on it… so i gave up on taking them off… ill have to use the impact gun at my school tomorrow…
Anyways, So i put the blue moon cleaner on the wheels and buffed away with towel type bonnet, The mothers polish did nothing btw.
Here’s the pictures, I spent about 10 minutes on the driver side and 20 on the passenger side wheel, And used a regular towel to wipe the extra cleaner off.
PS: The corners are a bitch on the fat 6’s since it has a indent, Fat 5s and blades would be easyer… and the shine will not stand up against Robstunners trick but its a hell of alot easyer.
Driver side before.
After.
Passenger side (fogged/Clouded to the max) Before.
i desperately need to do this to my front passenger wheel. I’m having trouble finding a good buffer drill bit tool, i have one that has a bonnet on there, but i really dont like the hard plastic underneath.
been using mothers mag aluminum polish (the really expensive stuff, the $15 can not the white one) and it helped but still not as great as the other ones… here’s a before, and i’ll get an after whenever it gets fixed haha!
I used a car buffer, The one you buff your paint with (i buffed the entire car once, wont do it again without a garage :gay: ).
As far as update go’s… I began misstreating the wheels with not such frequent cleaning… So i took them off this time to buff them but used mothers plastic polish.
They look even better, Since i was able to buff every individual part of the wheel that needed the buffing.
 So basically, all you did was strip the clear coat off the rims? Are those “flakes” on the after pictures clear coat chips, or is that polish droplettes?
Havent done it with g2 rims but I have done it with ford and other clearcoated rims. You can buy clear stripper at Napa (or other parts store) strip the clear and buff out the rims. It will have quite a shine to it if you do it right, obviously a “polished” look. Anyways, if you dont mind blinging it looks good IMO, better than chipping, pitting clear coat.
I used Meguiars Plastix polish/cleaner. It worked extremely well. I did it by hand though, lots of elbow grease. I got the same result as posted above.
P.S. I had these rims stored for about a year hence the really nasty clearcoat.
