Okay, the other day my axle started vibrating really bad. I picked up a used axle from a pick-n-pull and swapped it in today. It was all going back together smoothly until I tried to put the castle nut on the lower ball joint. I started to tighten it up and the ball joint started spinning with the castle nut. I’m pretty sure that means I need a new ball joint right? Would you suspension gurus suggest oem or can I get one at autozone so I can get this thing back on the road? Thanks.
youse an impact gun an it should tighten right up
You think so? I just bought a duralast one from autozone. I haven’t done anything with it though. Don’t you think if the ball joint itself is spinning, it must be broken? It stayed put when I was taking the castle nut off…
It’s fine, just use an impact wrench. Same thing happened to me when I replaced them on my DB2.
I would ensure its not crossthreaded first, but yes get it snug with the impact and tourqe it from there.
Thanks for all the replies! I’m going to go try it now!
Rollin I had exact same problem. Try a thread restore kit. You can rent them at autozone. I took mine apart and she kept on spinnin just like yours rethreaded the the threads on the balljoint and fucker went right on no problems.
thank God i wasn’t the only one with this problem!! =] Cheers!
Bank… did you have to take off the whole steering knuckle to rethread? or did you do it while it was connected ball joint and all??? i like your approach about this and it is cheaper cause i called my local autozone and all they require is a deposit which you get back… thanks in advance
nvm i got it… took some effort but i ended up removig the steering knuckle and knocking the ball joint out with about 4 or 5 good pounds of the hammer and knock the other one in almost the same i used a socket to cover the new one to prevent damage to the new one… i think i may do the other side too just for shits and giggles… hah thanks
