i am planning on getting my car painted this spring. maybe summer, but hopefully sooner rather than later.
the question i have is about what to do about my front bumper. i don’t have a pic, but maybe i’ll go clean the snow off the car and take a picture, if needed.
there is damage on the passenger side corner of the front bumper, the black moulding part, to be exact. the corner where it’s curved is kind of flatterned and torn apart. i don’t know what happened to it, it was like that when i bought the car. it looks like someone got too close to a wall or something.
anyhow, i’m wondering if anyone knows how to fix this for paint, or if i should just try and find a used bumper in good shape. i found a driver’s side door (was damaged when i bought the car), a rear bumper and filler panel (got rear-ended last january) and a gas door (mine is just rotten) all for pretty cheap, so if i have to pay for a front bumper, i won’t be too upset, but i’d prefer to just fix mine. i plan on having everything at least prepped and primed before it goes on the car. possibly painted too, since the parts i have are white, blue, and black, and my car is red. lol.
anyway, i’m wandering here… any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions on what to do about my front bumper?
either bondo it evenly out or go find a used one… imo i would just get a used one, saves time and hardship outta bondo-ing it right, but good thing for me i can get a brand-new front bumper for only $34 right out the store…
i thought about using bondo… but when the bumper flexes, won’t the bondo just pop off? could i use a fiberglass resin to build it up, and then shape it to match?
trying to “repair” a plastic moulding is not going to go well for you. Fiberglass and bondo are appropriate for repairing damage to metal, not plastic.
hit your local junkyards/u-pulls/part outs (in the forums) and find a new one for cheap.

It is probably aftermarket. OEM’s are expensive. Aftermarket is like 30-40 bucks. Try Certifit.com if you want aftermarket. They fit okay, might have to trim though.
i’d go to the junk yard, but there is never any integra’s there. as soon as there is one there, someone has it for a parts car. i call every now and again, but they never have anything. it sucks. i was just hoping that there was some kind of fix for it, but i guess i’m stuck looking and hoping.
Are you willing to travel? Because I know Nova Scotia has a wicked concentration on cars on www.kijiji.ca . What years the car? I have almost the same problem with the molding, except I have the added touch of having broke the inside lip off of the bumper (right by the lights) so I need a new one too, but, I sourced out a DA that is sitting, so I’m going to go to the guy soon about taking it for parts. I know PEI doesn’t have much for cars alot, so go on Kijiji and hit up Moncton, Halifax and Fredricton looking for stuff. Skowe the site like its going out of style, you’ll eventually find exactly what you want.
yeah, i found a hole in the bottom of my bumper the other day while i was out working at it. fuck i hate the roads here. i bottomed out 3 times last week. so i think i will go with a new bumper, or at least new to me. no point in trying to polish a turd, right?
i was hoping not to have to travel, but since i can’t find anything local, and there is no point in trying to fix it, i will probably have to. the only thing about kijiji that sucks is that nobody ever takes their old ads down after the car is sold. it’s annoying to send out 20 emails and get 20 back that say the shit’s gone.

u ever come to PEI for the sport compact weekend in oyster bed? i was trying to see if i could get a group of 2nd gen tegs together for this year, but no word from anyone yet. i posted in the “meets” forum. if you are interested, let me know, and try to get some others together too!
No, I haven’t gone to one of those weekends. Sounds like it would be a blast, but alas, my car is far from show-warthy. It has a serious amount of work that needs to be done over the summer, and it’s getting parked within the next few weeks so that the work can be done. Unless the meet is LATE in the summer, I think I’ll have to pass. I’ll be looking forward to meet and greets next summer time, but for now, I’m keeping quiet till I have something to show off.
And In order for me to get my car rolling to where I want it, I may end up taking a parts car(s), and I’m picky with the years. Meaning, I’ll only have a 90 or 91. If I manage to get my hands on another front bumper (I need one too) I’ll let you know. I’m going to start looking seriously for parts cars as soon as mine gets in the garage, but if I happen to get two for cheap I’ll definatly let you know.
awesome. that would be sweet. mine is a 92. and believe me, it’s FAR from show worthy too. lots of work needs to be done, but it’s my daily driver, so i have to just pick at it and do the work whenever i can, and whatever i do has to all be done at once, or i have nothing to drive. it sucks.
so going to the sport compact weekend at the track is not like a car show. you should see some of the relics that show up there. some really nice stuff too though. i’m going to try and get some more video this year, last year i missed out and only caught the couple hours of the drags on the last day. stupid work. so i am not missing out this year, even though my car will likely be 4 different colours. even if i don’t go to race, i want to be there. it’s a pretty huge party. if you decide to come over, even without your G2, give me a shout, i’ll let you know where to find me.
