Hey guys I’ve been looking for a coilover suspension. I’ve heard from everyone that Koni Ground control is the best. But for some reason or another I like Function and Form V2. Anyone have experience with these on a auto-x course or track?
No one Auto Xs their car?
not for a long time, but GC matched with Koni shocks were very popular. you can choose your spring rates (400LBS Front 600LBS rear) were about the limit of DD comfort vs. track whore comprimise.
Ground Controls/Koni Yellows are the “best” and proven setup for coil sleeve setup. You can order different spring rates as indicated and have them revalved to the spring rate too. Personally I don’t have a problem with them, but i much prefer QUALITY full coil overs as apposed to the ground controls and konis. However if i was in your shoes, I would definitely get the ground control/koni setup over the function and forms just due to the fact that the konis has some research and development behind them; as you can find dyno charts all over the web. Also if you ever have to rebuild them, koni has great customer service and they’re located in the US, and just from that makes your life so much easier. The Function and Form coils from past research that i did years ago, I found that they were essentially another version of D2 and Ksports which are utterly garbage Taiwanese coilovers (I’m Taiwanese, so go figure lol), since they have no R&D behind them, and the dyno charts are not very pleasing. i don’t know how they are now, since my initial findings were years ago…
my $0.02
I had skunk2 type S adjustable coilovers and they held up really good on the road and canyon runs I used to visit, I think they were 800 in front and 6 in rear. I was supper happy with them and very well balanced.
You didnt mension if you had a budget…
Whoops sorry guys. I am on a budget of course. I was looking at koni GC but have been reading that I need the extended top hats to use them correct? Also my budget is under $1,000.00. I have been hearing good things about Function and form from people that have owned them. I never really thought about them that way. To be honest I’m not super badass I’ve only been to a couple of track days and competed in 2 of them.
bump
I autocross but my setup is totally different with Tokico Illumina shocks and Swift coilover spring 12kg front and 10kg rear with sleeves from skunk2. I would definitely go with Koni/GC and choose the best spring rate. I would get a subtle rate if you drive the car a lot on streets. If it’s only for autocross go a little stiffer maybe with like 10g or 8kg front and 6kg rear. Most people like to put stiffer rear springs in for a autocross setup, but that’s totally preference in my opinion. I would NOT recommend any made in Taiwan coilover system because it just seems to not be really for “performance” as they say they are. Get trusted and proven setups. Koni/GC would be best bet for your budget. I also replaced all my bushings and rear trailing arm bushing too which I HIGHLY recommend if you plan on autocrossing and tracking. And, I have Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars too.
Pics of my bootleg setup which works quite nice
