Gauge mounting?

Where or how are you mounting your gauges. I need to mount my boost gauge I would like to do a pillar pod but cant find one for the DA. Only universal. So I was thinking getting a single pod and mounting it under the radio by the ashtray?

i mounted mine in the dash. i have a 3 pod gauge cluster and its mounted right ere the dinner tray goes on my DA

They have single and double gauge pods for the DA on ebay. I bought a double one on ebay not too long ago…

How did you mount the cluster on the dinner tray… just drilled right into the dash?

OP, most of these “gauge pods” will be universal. Just get a heat gun, or a blow dryer set on high, and basically mold it to the shape of your A pillar and add a screw or two and you should be fine.

Hope that helps!

i made a piece of mdf (the type used to build sub boxes) and sanded it to the shape of the tray. then screwed the pod to it.

heres some pics

^^ Oh snap… that’s a freakin’ great idea… never even thought of that! A+ for you for being creative. What did you use to mount the custom tray? Velcro?

Thanks for sharing and would you happen to have any pics?

it fits perfectly in place, its mounted with drywall screws through the board and fits snugly to the dash. will put up pics when i find my digicam charger and the weather gets better.

Oh so you used screws to mount it directly to the dash? That’s something I was trying to avoid… good idea though nonetheless.

yes its mounted directly. i have a spare dash so i didnt care. the original idea was to screw it and then fiberglass it to flow with the dash but due to having to wire it and swap gauges i left is like that.

So where exactly do the gauges go? I only see one hole on that piece you have in the picture and I’m assuming that’s to bolt that piece to the dash.

I take it that peice is bolted to the dash and the gauges go on top of that piece…

Obviously they go on top of that piece, I want to know how they go on top of that piece…

the hole is for the wires to the gauges. they are mounted on top of that piece slightly angled. still haven’t found my charger for my camera since i moved. got a few more boxes to go through/

With screws and a bracket. The bracket wraps around the gauge and the bottom of the bracket has holes where you screw the gauges onto that top piece.

I got the same kinda problem with an oil pressure gauge that came mounted on the drivers side between the windshield and the drivers side window. It’s not so much as how do I get it mounted or where but as how do I hook it up?

It’s just sitting there and not working other than to light up every time I turn the headlights on.
Where does the oil pressure gauge hoo into?

There are different types of gauges (mechanical vs electrical) as well as multiple configurations they can be setup in. Have you read the instructions? Have you googled for general information on installing an oil pressure gauge? Those would be your first places to start. Once you learn how they are hooked up generally and what is required you can worry about exactly how it needs to be hooked up to your car. Most gauge manufacturers should have pdf manuals / install guides available on their websites.

If it is a mechanical gauge, most people will hook a t-fitting on the back of the block where the Oil Pressure Sending Unit is (the one that controlls the dummy-light) and run steel-braided hose from the t-fitting to your gauge.

If you end up doing it that way I would just remove the pressure sending unit and install the braided hose, don’t bother with the t-fitting and all that. I mean… if you have a gauge, the dummy light is pointless. Not to mention by the time the dummy light comes on your engine is already being damaged… soooo, its a moot point to keep it.

If its electrical, definitely do some research online as I can’t be of much help on that one… never hooked one of those up.
