Gauge wiring.....searched

I’ve been looking for wiring tips on the backlights for my gauges with no success. I’m just looking to see what spot you ran the wires from to get them to come on with the headlights.

My idea is to get a relay. Run a wire from an open fuse spot, then take the dimmer wire from the headunit to control when they turn on. I dont need the dimmer for the headunit because it’s an alpine.

Does this seem like a safe and successful idea? Also if I run the wire from an extra fuse in the panel would I need one inline?

EDIT:
A mod can move this to the Electrical section if they want.

take the power from the fuse box from the same fuse that powers the other lights. this way you dont need to add any extra fuses and works like stock. if your unsure i can go check the fuse i used in my car. i dont remember by heart. you dont need the dimmer. and if you really want them to dim, just hook the dimmer wire to the wire on the dimmer directly.

Are you doing this because you’re gauge lights aren’t coming on? I’m doing something close to what you’re doing. None of my lights come on when I turn on my lights. I bought a 4 light l.e.d. kit from auto-zone and I’m going to splice it into the regular power wire going to the cluster and then I’ll tap into the neg going to the cluster. I have power to the cluster and a good ground just no lights. The bulbs look fine. I think I’m going to post pics of it.

Im just planning ahead. They just need to come on with the headlights, dimming isnt a big deal. Now I just need some time to work on it.
