GC/OEM Struts...need help.

I recently acquired a used set of Ground Control coilovers for my '91 4door. I’ve been owning and working on Tegs for about 5 years now, been a member of g2ic for a few years…but…I know very little about suspensions.

The GC setup I bought came with the springs, 2 top gaskets, 2 rubber sleeves, 1 spanner wrench. Customer Rep at GC says their kit comes with 2 sleeves and 4 top gaskets…but he said missing 2 won’t hurt anything. Pics below.

My other issue…I’m having to use these on OEM struts until a friend of mine finds his set of KYB AGX for me. Tonight I installed the “shorter threaded cylinder” coilovers on my rear struts…hoping I used the right coilovers and had the right rated springs for the rear. I noticed that the threaded cylinder doesn’t sit properly in the lower perch where the old stock spring sat…which is something else that has me concerned.

Any help/suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated…before I decide to rip apart my front suspension and convert those to coilovers.

you don’t need that wrench for gc. theres a little allen screw that you just loosen and you can turn the perch by hand. then you tighten the screw.its normal that the threaded sleeve doesn’t sit right since the perch is designed for a spring to seat in it.

also you got 251 lbs/inch springs just for your info.

Short threaded sleeve goes in the front. Taller threaded sleeve goes in the back.

Crap…So I have to switch the coilovers around?

I’ll get the numbers from all the springs…and if someone could tell me the rates and fill me in on where I should put them (front or rear) that would be awesome.

Also…those 2 rubber tubes that came with the GC’s…where exactly do those go? The 2 top grommets I have, I’m using on the front. The Customer Service Rep at GC said since I only have two…that using them on the front would be my best option…he also said the 2 rubber tubes are used on the fronts, so I’m assuming they go inside the short threaded cylinder? I’d like confirmation before I did this.

The number on the other springs…is 78713…don’t remember the other longer number.

78701 are on the rear, 78713 are on the front. Is this correct? I know nothing about spring rates.

By the way…got them all installed…car looks aggressive as hell with GC’s and 17" OZ’s.

you need the longer number to figure out the spring rate.
