Hi everybody.
I have a 90 RS with 230k km on the engine with CAI and cat back exhaust. This is my first car and i dont have much experience with racing. I was wondering if anyone could post some specific info on shifting gears, more specifically when. Also i was thinking about making a swap to a b16a (since this is all i can afford) and i was hoping that someone would post some dyno charts on their results on both stock tegs as well as modified and with b16a or provide some link to some charts. Thanks.
Shift at redline. Try to shift as fast as possible so that your rpm’s land as high as possible.
I used to have a mathmatical formula that you could use to calculate when the correct rpm was to shift.I’ll see if I can find it.In the mean time what I remember when I figured it out for a stock 1.8l engine set up was that the ideal shift points were way above the rev limiter. What we were told was to shift just before the rev limiter kicked in since there was now way that you could shift where you calculated it at.Get maximum use out of that horse power shift at the rev limiter.
ive heard of two theories: shift wherever you make peak power because anything past that your just losing power AND right before the rev limit cuz itll bring you closer to peak power in the next gear. i never cared about shifting because i got an automatic :gay: but im in the process of converting
Investigate the b20 possibility also, you can get one for 800 + shipping and handling, bolts right into your teg, don’t have to rewire ecu or need a new tranny. Build it for the money you got left, and down the road you could spend another 500 and get a good b16 head and do a head swap, and bam you got a crvtec, which will whoop a b16 all day and it won’t be too expensive. I think just a built b20 could probably beat a b16 by a bit, b18b’s give b16s trouble, and a b20 is just a juiced up b18 basically. ,
(only when racing-this could destroy your clutch)i shift at 6800 in 1st in 2nd i double clutch(slam the clutch and let off) at 6000 then clutch and shift to 3rd when it jumps to about 6800-7000 in 2nd gear. I have a 90 engine w/ a 92 ecu in 92 teg ![]()
