Glass weatherstripping / trim woes

I have a bunch of damage on my weatherstripping that I believe is from a car wash I went to last year during winter. Does anyone know how to repair these? The closeup one is of the upper right windshield. Can you buy the weatherstripping trim new? Thanks for any insight.

Unfortunately they’re not available new anymore. Your best option would probably be to find good condition used ones from someone parting a car or scavenging a junkyard.

The part under the rear window should be easy to replace. You just slide it off toward the front, I think, and slide a new one in its place. Some silicone spray helps. The front/windshield looks odd at full magnification, like the plasticised coating is coming off, while the material underneath is intact??

Roger that. For the windshield, yeah I guess it’s just a plastic coating that peeling off, but at the same time, it looks like it was clipped in.

Normally I wouldn’t recommend PlastiDip… But in this situation it really is about your best bet… especially on these discontinued pieces.

I’ve used it on wiper arms… Roof-gutter trim… Windshield trim… Mudflaps…

It works great for those rubber-coated pieces that tend to peel over time.

I believe it just slides off, so if you want a used one, its probably available if not damaged. On my car, it took a little silicone spray, a small tap or two, and it slid right off.

I have no idea how to get the one at the windshield off the car w/o damaging it, so you may have to repaint/dip that. I am sure a glass repair shop would know how to replace it. On a different car, they just charged me $25 + price of the part to replace a piece similar to that. Took them all of 20 minutes and a collection of knives and scrapers and glue. Worth it in my opinion.

So I went to the junkyard to see about these parts. The windshield one DOES actually pop off: The chrome corner (which is painted black) is connected to the side piece that goes down the A/B pillars.
As for the rear window one, it does slide off quite easily, so I got those too.

I have a problem with the wiper arms always getting pitted, I think I’ll try the plastidip on those arms. Thanks!

Flat black epoxy paint works well enough too, and seems to last 3-4 years even in the Midwest. I think I used the VHT epoxy paint from Autozone last time, about $7/12 ox can.

Were you able to remove the windshield trim without damaging the plastic clips? I have tried getting some silicone spray under the trim to help, but the plastic is still way to fragile, or I am way too clumsy, not sure which.

Only one was damaged – but I think it was broken from before. I’m going to take extra car with the ones I take off to make sure I don’t break any.

Geez, its like these pieces are on a timer to go bad at the same time. The very same pieces in the very same spot have gone bad for me just this year. My plan is to peel off any of the plastic that will come off, scuff up the metal underneath and paint them black with some good paint or maybe get them powdercoated.
