im looking for a decent set of gauges and from what i heard these are pritty accurate as well as cheap…does anyone got pics of them??- im interested to see the black ones what they look like on/off-- they got black or smoked, id like to see both…i take it the black ones you cant see when the cars off??
thanks man i saw that thread- those pics r of the megan racing ones i wanted to see the ones from that site
i’ll try to take a pic of my vacuum gauge i have in my car, lights up alot brighter than the megan a/f i have in there. will try to post tonight once i get home. i want to get the newer version where you can change the colour it lights up.
I have autometer phantom gauges. I pulled the bulb out and ordered some LED bulbs off ebay for like $1. They look really good with the ebay LED bulbs.
that sounds good id like to see pics of that as well, but id personally prolly just go wit the glowshift ones cause there alot cheeper and i dont gotta mod them.–morbidthoughts wut happend to the pics lol ?
i have the smoked ones from glowshift…i’ve had them for over a yr…i have the A/f, BOOST and OIL PRES…the only problem is that my oil one doesn’t react quickly like it suspose to…i had a shop wit a great rep install them in a modded 3 pod pillar from a civic…
i was goin to swap in autometer but i may try to replace the oil and see what happens
you mind taking pictures of them on/off for me.- what im not getting with these gauges is, when they are off, like the car off- are they completely dark- cause thats what it looks like from the picture…
and another question i had, since ive never installed gauges, do these come with instructions and what not to make the install go smoothly .
yes when they are off, they are as black as they can get. The lens is “smoked” so when you turn on your car the gauge lights up bright.
They do come with instructions. If you have a hard time trying to figure it out then just search here on g2ic!
ok here is a really bad pic of a megan a/f gauge on the left and my glowshift vacuum gauge underneath my stereo. The glowshift is alot brighter, but it’s not annoying in anyway (about the same brightness of my stereo).
remember this was taken with my awful camera phone in the dark…no flash…
eventough in this pic the megan looks readable it really isnt. In the dark i cant see it for shit, its not bright enough. I really like these glowshift gauges, i will try to take better pics later on and while im not driving. lol.
I decided not to skimp out on the gauges. Autometers are quality gauges and they have a classy look to them. They have a ton of different series, goto autometer.com and check them out. I have two 2 1/4" inch gauges in the autometer double gauge pod meant for the DA. I need to take some more pics of them.
The stock lighting on the autometer gauges is just this shitty little dashlight bulb that has a pathetic white/yellow look to it at night… similar to every older style dash. All I did was untwist the bulb holder in the back, took the bulb out and replaced it with an LED one. It’s much brighter and I can pick any color I want - I went with blue to match my car stereo.
I have the autometer mechanical (vacuum line running to the dash) boost gauge and the electronic sending unit oil psi gauge (fuck having hot oil travel 5 feet right up next to my face). That’s the biggest problem with running a knock-off gauge, hardly any of them are electronic sending unit. I know I could have saved $30 and gotten an ebay china crap gauge but I wanted the sending unit.
Currently all the good parts are getting stripped from my car and are on their way to the DB1 I just bought. I’ll see if I can hook up the gauges for you to show how nice they look at night.
one more thing… don’t even bother wasting your money on an AFR gauge. It’s a purely function less gauge that I like to call a ricer light show. They are completely pointless to have, fill the spot with a wideband meter or a pyrometer gauge if you want metering abilities.
I agree with everything you just said. I mostly bought these as practice (they are affordable) on how to install gauges properly without worrying about expensive gauges not working or getting stolen.
But now, i want more accurate gauges. Yes the air/fuel gauge is worthless if it’s not a wideband ( i got mine to figure out some idle/fuel problems). .
Yup i take these as a cheap alternative to the more expensive products out there.
If they work that’s good. If the thieves jack my autometer gauges I’m out some cash. I don’t really need an excess of gauges, just oil & boost.
I looked around for a nice looking cheap electronic oil sending unit equipped oil gauge. If I found one I would buy whatever matching boost gauge. I couldn’t find one, they were all mechanical. So I defaulted to the phantoms. I do love the look.
