I bought the car from a friend that was a real gearhead and im…not so much. Dont really know whats out there but i have done research, thinkin about puttin on a AEM cold air short ram Intake but i have heard its just loud and not to worth it. any opinions?
ummm its either going to be one or the other.
cold air
or
short ram
and there are countless threads discussing which one is “better” (neither one is really better than the other, just depends on where you want the hp gains). take the time to search.
Do your tune up things, timing belt, accessory belts, water pump, spark plugs + wires, fuel filter, oil + filter, fluid flushes for transmission/radiator/brakes. Do that stuff if the car needs it, and if you don’t have any records of when things were done and cannot get them, I’d do everything. Intakes are fun, they make the car more than just a commuter while giving you a couple horsepower.
AEM, Injen intakes are both decent
Ebay ones work fine as well, just a little cheaper made and lack carb certification.
well if i were you i would do a tune up first b4 gettin parts
A motor in need of a tune up will lose lots of power. Example: On of my past Camaros, had gone 50k miles without a tune-up… Made 140whp on the dyno, I slapped some plugs, wires, cap, and buttion, air filter, fuel filter, and reset ignition timing and I made 192whp the next run.
As for intakes, I prefere seeing a factory air box. Just remove your resonator, and do the ram-air thing found in teg tips. Add a K&N filter and your done… Probably makes more power, and looks a whole lot better IMO.
ITR 4-1 header w/ headshields, and a 2.5"-2.25" reducer high flow cat, and a RS*R ex-max exhaust or a super OG HKS hi-po exhaust would be my next mods to the motor.
Next I would track down a ITR shift linkage and Protain bushings and a Spoon sports shift knob for the right weighted feel on the shifter.
After that I would install a Exedy stage 1 clutch and flywheel, maybe some CTR cams, apex-i V-afc, skunk 2 IM, ITR TB. A basic rebuild to reduce blowby from wear and tear.
the K&N filter is exactly what my friend put on there so i guess i will look away from gettin a intake. Thats the perfect info for me. Thanx party
