i just got my auto to manual swap and 3rd gear pops out if i let the car slow down a bit or take my foot off the gas. could it be that i need more oil or the shifter was installed wrong? he used 2 existing holes to hook the shifter up. He said he put new barings and clutch in, it is great in every single gear and only kicks out on 3rd. i just drove it for an hour today and i am going back to the shop that did the convertion tom. could it be the installation or did i get a bad tranny?
The third gear sincro snap ring needs to be replaced. The Snap ring holds the gear in place.
is this a big job?
The tranny has to be pulled , seperated and all the gears on both shafts have to be removed until there is access to the 3rd gear syncros. All that work and all it is , is a small metal ring that goes around the syncro. The ring only costs a few dollars.
why do you people keep changing auto’s to sticks? it’s so hard to freakin find a great automatic, and manuals are in abundance. why why why??? if anyone switched a hatch i’d be pissed 'cause i looked forever for an automatic at a good price… why not sell the automatic (to a sap like me) and buy a stick (you’ll have tons of money left over that way)…
disclaimer…

how much did the swap cost you??? i have too much time and money invested in my teg, so selling and buying a manual is out of the question. mines auto and want to swap. i was gonna do it myself with mechanically inclined friends, but i’d rather have “insurance”.
It was for 1200 for the parts and labor. the guy said he was only taking 400 and got the parts for 800 which included everything with new axles, clutch, bearings and fixed an oil leak put in fuel filter and ign. coil. the down side is the tranny is messed up but i got a 90 day warrenty on the parts and labor. he said to call tom. to put in another tranny for free but i won’t recommend him to anyone until i see if he really would. it took a couple of days and i saw everything he did to the car. still he didnt know how to hook up my back up lights, cruise or the side mount i am gona do it myself from the auto to manual writeup. the hardest part was when the car didnt start and the key wouldnt get out it was because of the auto tranny shifter “slider” had to be hooked up and in the park position. that’s gona be my new kill switch speedo meter not working anymore i gota check that out tom too.

I’m with you. I don’t understand why someone would throw money away to people who obviously can’t handle simple wiring like reverse lights and starter interlocks. it is cheaper to buy a car with a stick than to convert an auto into one.
because my auto was going bad… and i didnt want to go through the S*** if buying another used car and sell mine dirt cheap, another used car and i dont know what problems it might have?
Oh man you threw away your money. If you know anyone in Japan, you could of got a B16a SHIPPED for that price instead of going threw middle man (most online sellers). I live in Hawaii and the best price for a motor I ever saw was a perfectly fine redtop sr DIRECTLY from japan for $700. Yes I was there when the transaction was made…
