got timing belt on cams at TDC, now crank stuck

i spent all day trying to get the cams right and the belt on (w/o having to loosen the tensioner or crank) and got the hashmarks to line up as well as the crank lined up at the white hash, but now all three dont seem to budge. its as if the piston and valves are touching. whats the deal?

Is it in Neutral?

ya it is. it turns in park as well tho btw

Try backing all of your valves off a little bit and then see if it spins alright. You have to know how to do a valve adjustment for this procedure, so if you dont know, now is a good time to learn how.

are your plugs in, maybe too much compression to turn by hand if that’s what your doing

If everthing is lined up correctly it should be at TDC. At TDC all the valves should be closed. To check this wiggle each cam follower, if it wont wiggle your not at TDC. Did you turn the water pump when you installed it? Make sure it will turn.

Make sure you’re at TDC for cylinder #1. Take the plug out and stick a long dowel or something in there and make sure the TDC you set the cams to is TDC for cylinder #1. Your stock cam gear arrows should be pointing up I believe, and the dowel sitting on the piston should be as high as possible, and the white mark should be lined up with the mark on the timing belt cover. Also stick some 5mm pins (the uncut end of a drill bit works too) in the holes to lock the cams in place to make sure they’re correct. Everything should line up.
