Great now I just broke my ebrake

Can anyone help me,
I bought my new teggy standard cause it was a mad great deal, only problem I had’t ever driven anything but an auto. So I have gotten used to it pretty well, but I have a very bad memory. So I went to the store and I forgot to disengage my ebrake and I drove home that way!!! Now my ebrake won’t hold the car by itself!!! I broke it :frowning:

So anyone know how hard this is to fix?
Got any ideas on what it might cost me to have fixed?
Did I cause any further damage to my car? (I didn’t drive more then maybe 500-1000ft, however I did go 40 mph with the ebrake on)

Thanks Guys

shouldn’t have done any more damage to the car, but your e-brake cables could have stretched or they at least need adjustment now. If you look right behind the e-brake handle, there’s a small rectangle plastic cover that you can pop off with a screwdriver. Then you’ll see two cables on an equalizer. If you tighten the nut you see between the 2 cables, it should do at least a little bit of help. Do this with the rear wheels off the ground and put the brake up one notch. Tighten the nut until the wheels JUST start to drag. Then release the park brake and make sure they don’t drag with it off. You may need to replace your cables though (I gotta do that one of these days…)

could the handbrake brake pads have worn down?

EDIT I think on our tegs the rear pads double as our handbrake

Just to add on - the e-brake should be fully engaged after 6-7 clicks.

Thanks for all the help guys
I am getting a new gas tank in my car so I guess I’ll have my mechanic look at my ebrake as well.
