GS drivers side seats question

Is it normal for the whole drivers seat not to slide front and back on its tracks by lifting the side lever to let back seat passengers in?

The passenger side can slide on its tracks front in back with the side lever lifted but not the drivers seat.

I know I know, you’ll have to use the lever on the front of the driver seat in order to make it slide on its tracks.

Is that a standard operation on our cars? And what is the purpose for that set up?

Yes that is working right. Its designed so for any reason the level is pulled the seat dosent slide back and forth causing the driver to lose control of the car. Any coupe you find will be like this.
