whats up people, this may sound like a stupid question, but i have a 90 ls, and i was wondering does a 94+ gsr engine and tran bolt right into my engine bay? if not what else do i need…
thanks alot
tek
Go to the teg tips section of this site and look under the engine section for the “engine swap guide”. That will have all of your answers there…
Later,

I have a 98 GSR in my 90 ls and it bolts right up using the 90 motor mounts…
how does it pull? pretty damn good right? compared to stock ls?>
Oh, it pulls like a bat out of hell… heh
Seriously though, it is great and once the Vtec kicks in it screams. I know most people don’t condone street racing but after I got the car running right I pulled out my camcorder and went out to the street races and raced a couple of cars. I was curious about how fast it was and I just had to know what I could beat. I raced 3 times, 1st I raced a 99 Eclipse GS and beat him fairly easy, then I raced a 99 GST twice, the first race he beat me by about half a car. The 2nd race I beat him by about a door. I was surprised, I didn’t think it would be that fast, our cars were about equal in power. Once we took off we pulled about the same throughout the whole race. The first race he beat me on the takeoff and the 2nd race I got him on the takeoff. My friend got it all on tape. After that I was going to line up with a GSR and the cops came and blocked both ends of the streets off. They caught about 25-30 cars and maybe around 75-80 people… it was crazy, they made us sit out there for about 3 hours in freezing temps while they searched our cars and checked everybody for warrants. Luckily I didn’t have any so I got to go home. Needless to say I won’t be streetracing anymore period. But back to your original question. Yes it is freakin fast… or fast enough for me anyways.
Rob
EDIT: I can’t stand typos…
FAST ENOUGH!..is that even possible?
put I/H/E chip ecu and some mroe fuel delivery and spark and nice set of cams then you’ll get the same results. from an LS maybe a tad bit less than a GSR but it’ll def feel like more pull because more torque. But if you build up a GSR with the same stuff than of course there is no comparison. it’ll actaully feel like a V-tec when you hit around 4000 rpm… which is even better "!! look how much lower it is!! woohoo lol
At least with Vtec you get to keep your 30 mpg!
i get like 23 right now =( i’m sure with addition of 403’s lol i’ll be refilling eveyr 2 days. i’m sure the liking of driving around is not going to help either… man it’s expensive to have fun.
what harness
what harness are you using in your car??? The obd1 GSR 94-95???
I am using the harness from the 90 ls. I have a 98 gsr in it. Check your mail.
Rob
Robb,
Is this GSR a JDM or USDM ? What else have you done other than the swap ? That sounds pretty impressive.
Joe
It’s a USDM engine. The motor is still mainly stock, it has a chrome valve cover, an AEM CAI, no header yet, an exhuast , stage 3 act clutch , ecu reprogrammed with hondata, msd activated switch for vtec and a couple of other little things here and there. Next thing I am doing to the motor is AEM cam gears and a DC header. The car was pretty dented up here and there but I have been working on it for the past couple of weeks and fixed most of the dents. I bought a shaved door kit and have already shaved the passenger door, I will be finishing the driver door tomorrow. I am keeping the car mostly stock on the outside though. I went all show on my last car and always got looks but always got beat if I even tried racing anybody…heh So this car is not gonna get the body kits and wings and all that. It will stay stock except for the shaved door handles and all that. It has some Maxspeed coilovers on it. I have some gunmetal 17’ rims on it now but I just sold those and I am trying to get my hands on some 15" black Rota’s. This bad boy is going to be a sleeper. I just bought a Kenwood p907/flip out tv/cd player from my friend who needed money so I am now trying to make a fiberglass casing to hold the monitor in the spot where the vents and ac controls are. Hopefully it will come out nice. I will get some pics up in a couple of days if I can figure out how…
Didn’t plan on writing a book… my bad.
Rob
Robb,
That sounds sweet and that sounds like the route that I am thinking about too. How much miles did you have on this 98 GSR motor ? And how much $ was it and how much $ have you put in in the motor/engine department ?
I have a 1991 Integra LS with 158,000 miles and I think before it gets to 180,000 I will do the same thing as you. BTW, what kind of front strut bar do you have on and how about any short shfiter ?
Regards,
Joe
It had about 58000 miles on it when I got it. I’ve only had it for about 2-3 months. The motor was about $2000. I have spent about $800-1000 on getting things right and this and that. I don’t have a strut bar on there yet. I almost bought one on Ebay but didn’t win the auction. I have a DC Sports short shifter. I would definitely recommend doing this swap to anyone. I was really impressed with it when I finally got a chance to test it’s power.

403s aren't that bad at all for gas mileage.
your right DA-TEG my fule did not go down at all and i know i’m running extrmeley right, i’m getting a VAFC so i can tune it out some more, in fact with some tuning i might be getting better mpg. thx da_teg i love myc ar =)
