I won the auction, but did not meet the reserve. That sucks was looking forward to a drive from Colorado to Florida.
I was looking at that one and was tempted to bid but wasn’t going to bid without a thorough discussion with the seller first and I was out of the country for most of the auction. Needed some paint on the front end but the interior is about as clean as I’ve seen in a long time. I wonder how much his reserve was, you should contact him and see about working out a deal.
Have you been watching the AGP GSR’s that have been up there recently?
I did have some correspondence with the seller. He is going to hold on to the car, because he feels that is is worth a lot more than it auctioned for. My only concern was the mileage being over 200 K. Parts are starting to become scarce for the B17A and the 2nd generation Integras. I missed out on buying a GSR shell for $550.00 last week. I really have no idea why I am looking for another car, I already have 4 project cars and three daily drivers. I just allways wanted a true DB2. I guess my clone will have to do.
Ha! Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I just bought my first house (a bit of a fixer upper) that is a big enough project, plus my DB2 track car project, plus my daily Subaru which needs a bunch of maintenance at the moment. So of course being the sane person I am I recently bought a b17a swap and am now looking casually for a DB2 shell. I sorta feel bad for taking my current DB2 and reducing it to a track only status car and would love to have a very nice condition DB2 that I just keep stock (or at least very close). I’m not too serious about buying one, but if the right one pops up I’ll jump on it.
I wouldn’t worry about the 200k. Most of the mileage/wear parts should still be available since so many are the same as other engines/chassis. My main concern is something that hasn’t been molested and has clean interior and clean paint. I just found a GSR locally that the guy is “testing the waters” on and trying to sell as a shell for a pretty damn high price. But if the paint is mint and original it might still not be a bad buy, not a steal by any means but with how rare clean paint is I think getting a steal is pretty unlikely these days.
I’m not so worried about paint, I have an excellent paint and body shop in the area. I have been using them since I bought my Integra in 92. I am looking for a DB2 with original paint as it is easier to not have to remove overspray and bad tape marks off of discontinued trim. I m not afraid of tackeling any mechanical or wireing problems. like you I am casually looking too, if one pops up I will buy it. I know of two local guys that have complete B17a / YS1 swaps for sale on the down low. That is why I was pissed that I missed that jasper shell due to having the flu. I had most of the parts that it needed in my garage due to my Integra / CRX parts hoarding problem, lol. Every married guy needs a hobby to keep them out of trouble. My wife never gives me a hard time about buying cars or parts. I asked her a long time ago “would you rather me be under a car or under some other woman?”.
Yup, sounds like we’re in very similar situations I’m just so weary of paint because it’s so expensive (and as you mentioned the lack of available parts). My current DB2 was in an accident earlier this year so I’m just now starting to prep it for a full respray. Removing moldings is nerve-racking because I know none of them can be replaced. Maybe after this paint job I’ll have less of a bias against painting a car - but still, it’s just so expensive! But I guess when you think about it a full engine rebuild with OEM parts, tuning…etc is roughly the same cost as a new paint job.
Let me know if you kave any questions on how to remove trim with out damaging it. I stripped my car before having it re sprayed and I parted out another car. The only thing I damaged on install was the drivers door lower window trim. I over tightened the screw at the back of the door and put a nipple on the outside of the trim. I payed over 4 thousand to have my car repainted back in 98. It was worth it, as the paint looks better than it did when the car was new. I paid to have a glass shop pull the windshield and hatch. I pulled the quarter glass myself because the drivers side was starting to rust under the trim. This was more than likely caused by the glass shop that replaced the window when my car got broken into. They also replaced the window with a PPG glass that was shit and did not fit correctly. I threw it away and replaced it with a factory piece after the paint job was completed.
Too late I’ve already removed almost everything. The only tricky part for me was the quarter glass trim and side windshield trim. I was able to get the quarter panel trim off pretty well in tact but did break a couple clips, same for the windshield trim. I’m likely going to check out junk yards for replacement trim anyway as some of mine has some damage and it’d be nice to get better pieces (if I can find them). The windshield will be coming out (I may try to remove it myself) since it’s already cracked and needs to be replaced - plus I need to remove it in order to replace the roof skin with an RS version. Quarter windows I’m going to leave in and just have them masked since you can’t buy new glass/clips. For the hatch I’m going to have them mask under the trim, unfortunately that rubber piece is discontinued and I have not been able to find an aftermarket replacement. From what I can tell that rubber isn’t something that can be removed/reinstalled and that it has to be cut out with the glass.
Jeff, have you considered Haydens car? He keep buging me to take it off his hands and transfer all the parts from my black 91 to it.
Yea, he has asked me to buy it too. It is not in very good condition, has been sitting for a long tine and needs new interior and paint. To be perfectly honest I really don’t need another car, I have to many already. Think my next will be a Honda Ruckus to use when camping.
I watched this one but didn’t bid. An Integra is the last car I need to complete my early 1990’s lineup.
1992 NSX
1994 Legend

Just one car away!
