alright, mine and my girlfriends anniversary is coming up. she asked what i wanted, i said “tranny”. so what would be better? and ls or gsr. a friend of mine said i should get a gsr, but im wondering for how much. i just wanted your guys opinions. btw, its going on a 90 ls sedan. general prices would be nice too.
Before I answer, what are you getting her?
im probably gonna get her a thermal r&d exhaust for her 90 prelude aws. let me guess, a gsr tranny is gonna be expensive.
probably about the same price as a new thermal exhaust.
I’ve been away from this board for a while, but from what i remember reading, the ls tranny has shorter final drive gears, so you get higher top speed, gsr has taller gears, so you get faster acceleration. i drive back and forth between home and school regularly, about 200 miles, and i already sit at around 4500 rpm. i certainly wouldnt want even higher. of course, i’m more interested in saving money right now than winning highway races. just my 2 cents.

I think you’ll be happier with the power the GSR tranny will give you on an LS motor. My friend has a B16 tranny on an LS motor and he sticks with a H22 prelude pretty good. The LS is to slow unless you get a turbo anyways. The price ranges from 350-750. Retail from an actuall shop will be around 700-800 dollars for a good dencent tranny. But find the deals. I got a B16 tranny for 400 dollars with less than 10000 miles on it.
well that doesnt sound too bad then. i think i would like to go with the gsr tranny because of the better acceleration. but it all really depends on what i find and for how much.
get an rs engine cause many people dont know but its the strongest tranny so think about it
shorter gears = faster. if you cant affod a gsr find a b16 or jdm s1/j1 tranny.

Try that thread for some opinions, including quite a few of mine. It was just up on the boards a few days ago. Feel free to read my posts for detail, but to sum it up, I love having a GSR YS1 tranny on my LS engine. Great for street/light to light racing and such. Sucks for highway though. But like I said, read the linked thread above, and check out my posts for a lot more detail. Hope this helps – Kevin
so if im going to do the gsr ys1 would all would i need?
Check out one of my other threads from yesterday:

Not the most in depth, but it’s a start. Just do a search on the boards about tranny swapping and the like. If my memory serves me correctly, the JDM trannys would match right up to your current setup without having to change clutch assemblies. The GSR YS1 would require getting the appropriate (92-93 Integra clutch assembly). But since you have a 91, that is why I’m saying it’d prolly be easier to look for one of the JDM shorter geared trannys. Because, if I remember correctly, they would install correctly with your current clutch assembly…but please double check me on that one. And also, it’ll probably be cheaper (and easier) to find a JDM tranny vs a GSR YS1. And most likely, the JDM tranny will have much less milage then a GSR YS1. So all said and done, for your specific vehicle, I’de just say go for the JDM tranny. Hope this helps – Kevin
so would anyone one here happen to have a jdm tranny for sale???
JdmSh!t.com They got good prices on Cable trannys…I’d get one with a LSD…
so which one should i get, Y1 , Y1 LSD, YS1, A1, S1?
look at the gear ratios you like better, then look at the prices and availability.
