GSR or TYPE-R HEAD?

im planning on doing a mildly built all motor build for my DA for now till i can afford bigger builds…my plans for later is GSR on boost…but for now ima do a all motor set-up just freshen up my stock GS block with some pistons and rods and all dat stuff…now since its a N/A build im thinking about aquiring a GSR head or a type-r head…which will help produce more power and which would ya recommend personally for the build? think id be able to run decent number wit my DA a/c and full interior and all?

Ive only been on the forum for a couple weeks but i already know the difference. A type R head is a honda ported PR-3 head, and the upgraded valvetrain. A GSR is a P-72 head, I dont know the exact differences between the two but look stock for stock, the type r makes more power stock, which one do you think? To be honest if your gonna end up with a boosted gsr why not just buy the gsr in the first place instead of buying two heads? Not to mention one is very overpriced.

Also, the Type R head is the exact same casting as the b16 head except for the hand port and polish and the upgraded valvetrain.

seriously dude, I just said that

I can understand wanting the GSR on boost. Nasty setup.
But, if you already have the LS in and it’s in good condition, then just boost the LS. Then worry about a vtec head down the road.
Fact of the matter is, a GSR swap is alot of coin. Better spent on the LS-V IMHO.

LS-T is also a good setup. And later on with an LS/VTEC-T would be that much better. Depending on what your power goals are you could leave it in stock form and pump out good numbers with the proper setup and tune.

i say get the gsr head with oem manifold if you plan on boosting. i’ve noticed that boosted p72 heads maintain a kansas flat tq curve from 4500rpm to rev-limiter with the p72 im. the p73 also has a bigger t/b, bigger im, bigger cams. but, in boosted form, the p72 head holds its own. i vote p72 for obvious reasons…price being a major factor. even though i’m going P73 with my f.i. build. g/l
