GSR tranny in an LS

Just out of curiosity, what would putting a GSR tranny in an LS do for performance? I suspect since it has shorter gears it would slow the car down because the gears would miss that sweet midrange sweet spot. Is this the case?

Acceleration would be better, top speed would be lower, and it would rev a bit higher at highway speeds than the LS tranny.

u try searching?

not like it matters but top speed may not be less. the LS tranny may be too long to get any decent power in 5th to really top it out. I think the stock b18a does a top speed of about 120-125mph… and i once saw a pic of someone in their gsr stuck at redline on the tach and all the way to the end of the speed too…sorta crazy pic.

RForceIntegra: do like max said. do some research on the topic… you’ll find out its a good idea. you won’t miss out on any power.

how much faster would acceleration be?

I’ve got a GSR YS1 tranny on my B18A1 and its great. With the stock YS1 tranny the fastest my car could do was an indicated 132mph. With the GSR YS1 it hits redline in 5th at around 123mph.

How’s the acceleration? Its dramatic. You can difinitially feel the difference and I can chirp 3rd gear and I’ve only got an ACT Stage 1 clutch. Yes the revs are higher on the freeway, I believe I’m at 4,000 rpms @ 72mph and 80mph is around 4,400 with 90mph at 5,000rpms. Gas mileage hasn’t really suffered, I still get 320-340 miles per tank.

If you’re thinking about doing a swap, do it. You won’t regret it. If I had a complaint it would be that 6,600rpms comes too quick. Once I get my new engine in with the higher redline, that won’t be a problem. This tranny is great for a stock LS, even better with an LS thats got better cams and springs with a redline say around 7,200 rpms and obviosly is great with VTEC.
