hey guys ive been doin a ls vtec but i got a ls wire harness and i was just wonder if i could use the full wire harness from a 94 or 95 gsr… or would i have to get a b17 wire harness for a 92 or 93…
no on both.
use the stock ls harness add the appropriate wires for VTEC, etc.
wat about just the engine harness ?? is that the only way u can do ls vtec is by using a ls engine harness
youre just going to make it harder by trying to use the harness from another car.
use the stock harness and add the additional wires.
srry but im not asking if its gna be harder or not i just wna kno if i can use a harness for a 92 ACURA INTEGRA GSR in my 92 INTEGEA GS…its the same exact car…same make …i dont wna use a ls ecu nor distributor ill go thru the extra work its a race car…thanks
You can, but it will not be plug ‘n’ play.
Your GS did not come with vtec, thus it has NO vtec wiring. You can put a GSR engine harness in the car, but plugging that into a GS chassis harness is useless. You’ll have all your additional wiring simply terminate at the plug since your GS chassis harness does not have the additional wires.
Your best bet is to do as the others have said. Us all your stock wiring and then create a subharness with all the additional wires you need. You could also change both the main wiring harness and the engine wiring harness. But you should know that the main harness is HUGE. It runs from the passenger headlight up the fender, through the firewall, under the dash across, back through the firewall, down the other fender and ends at the driver side headlight. It’s a lot of work to remove and even more to replace. I was considering doing the swap 7yrs ago when I was doing a b17a swap into my 91 GS. Once I pulled the GSR wiring I quickly abandoned the idea after realizing how much extra (and wasted) work it would be. More recently I almost attempted it again when I was going to pick up an RS shell which had NO wiring in it. Things fell through and I didn’t pickup the shell though.
Well, I came upon a web site where this guy who is a ASE Certified Auto Electrician. He makes simple plug and play wire harnesses that are made specifically for adding VTEC, Knock, and Intake sensors to cars that dont have them. They usually run $50 for VTEC and Knock sensor.
They run from your engine wiring harness and hook up to the ECU.
Sounds like that would be the best option to me. You dont have to mess with making your own wiring, which is good if you dont know WTF you are doing.:hmm:
Not to mention it looks like a regular harness, so you dont have a jerry-rigged look.
i already had my ls vtec running on my ls distributor and i had my knock disabled i just wanted to run a b17 distributor and ecu
You don’t have to change to a new wiring harness to use a vtec distributor and ecu. The vtec distributor will bolt right on and plug right in, no wiring issues whatsoever.
The ecu will already plug into your car and even run. But the vtec won’t work properly. Add a couple extra wires and bam, you’re done.
This is all old news, there’s tons of info to be had if you spend some time searching / researching.
im pulling my whole wire harness out anyways just becuase whoever had the car before i did hacked it all.so i debating on getting a new one…ive already pulled out the engine and passengers side of the harness out and did a wire tuck by replacing the fuse box and pulling out stuff i really dont need…it was a piece of cake .can it be that much harder to do the wire that runs across the drivers side of the car ?
If you get a new harness make sure its for your year and trim level!
The Driver side harness can be tucked also. Search and you will pull up many pics and info on the tucks done by many members on here.
Just run three wires (vtec solenoid, oil presure switch, and knock sensor) into the ecu pin them in and ground the 4th (ground) on the engine. done. simple. Enjoy VTEC!
