just wanted to know what people think is worth more
I’m putting together a GSR transmission but I have no need for it, but with the parts I have I wanna know which configuration will sell better.
GSR YS1 with the standard 5th gear (high rpm on highway)
GSR YS1 with a G3 GSR 5th gear (medium rpm on the highway)
for those who aren’t too familiar a G3 GSR 5th is right between an LS YS1 5th, and a GSR YS1 5th, making it not too low, but not too high. So not a huge leap between 4th and 5th like would be if I swapped an LS 5th.
just sell it as is. u already have a tranny that most want. if the “buyer” wants to change it out or request that u change it out, then do that. thats just my opinion so do as u please. good luck with the sale tho.
fuel mileage with a taller 5th gear will only increase marginally, but you lose a lot of power if mated to a b16/ b17a. Also there would be a higher tendency to lug the engine, and more downshifting to pass.
being a gsr owner i would go with the g3 5th. nothing pisses me off more than being at 5k rpm going with the flow of traffic. i would probably go with a ls 5th if i had the choice
nothing exactly wrong with 5k rpms… at least u got an extra 3k of room. had a jdm S1 tranny w/ lsd… try 4500 or so rpms, doing 70mpg, and only have 2k left to spare with an LS. topping out at 115… =(
and yes it was stupid going that fast on the freeway, and very dangerous, but that was many many years ago.
well my thoughts are hondas arnt made to race in 5th gear. they just dont have the power. being at 5k on the highway is just stupid if your not trying to go faster. i rather be around 3.5k where its not as loud and gets better mileage.
if u have a loud exhaust…AHHHHH!. my old da had a loud exhaust, no carpet or sound deadening crap…freaking felt like i had my head inside a large coffee can with the exhaust pointed directly at it. thinks wait our cars are like a large coffee can :dozing:
i always wanted the sp2 but couldn’t find it when i had my da. had the rsr for a bit (was a copycat), then went to a nice canister type one. it got really annoying to have to raise my voice a lot when needing to be on the phone while driving on the highway. after like 2 years, i switched it out back to stock. i appreciate stock mufflers and their restrictiveness
