if it sounds smooth, just like you think it should, and shifts without any bullshit, then cool. I am guessing that is too thick though. you are likely going to have some noise, like shhhhhhhhhhh sound, and some resistance to shifting. i would just put 10W-30 castrol syntec blend, or even straight. don’t put in a full-syn. it is not the right mix for transmissions. i tried 15W-40 Mobil Delvac fpr Diesel engines, and it was noticeably too thick and produced the above-mentioned symptoms. i tried honda mtf, and it was not as good, for me, as plain ol valvoline 10W-30, but most guys around here love it…
thats the wrong stuff, not sure if it’ll really do any damage, but its not what our transmissions were designed for. go get yourself some Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (mtf). GM synchromesh also works pretty well. And if not either of those two… just normal 10w30 like the manual calls for.
:shock:AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:shock:
Why did you even put that in there?? A 2.3 second search would have lead you to several different things, thos being motor oil, Honda MTF, and syncromesh…
You would have also found that you are NOT suposed to use gear oil in honda trannys!!! NOOOOOOOOOO get that out of there asap or syncros = dead.
The stuff from honda, which I recomend you getting btw is like a 5w-30 weight, maybe less feeling oil, very fluid, not like a gear oil at all.
ok thanks
if this is so then why should we use syncromesh? i mean i do have it in my car but it to is a gear oil and i beleive i read somewhere it is close to a 75 weight?
That sounds a bit funny, I’ve used the synchromesh and it definitely did not feel very heavy at all. My guess would have been that it was comparable to a 10w30.
You must have read wrong or your source is wrong, I have never used it but have read that it is very thin…like a 5 or 10 weight.
Honda recommends 10w-30 motor oil for the tranny. Of course this is before they made a tranny fluid. So 10w-30 motor oil or Honda MTF
Honda MTF or better. I’ve used GM syncromesh which did help our some, them moved on to Royal Purple syncromesh. I will only use royal purple now. To me it feels smoother that the honda mtf and it helped out my grinds on previous trannys.
I got me 2 quarts Royal Purple SAE 30…But read (Do not use full synthetic) and isn’t Royal Purple Full synthetic? So I’m skeptical about using it…The last time I changed my (M)trans fluid was last year, and I just put in Castrol 5W30…I just wanted to upgrade that so I bought the RP…Should I use it or not? Thanks…
i used Redline MTF and felt really easy and smooth to shift. now i got 10w30 and it feels just fine. just use what is recomended by the manufacturer and you’ll be fine.
I have heard that sythetics ruin our tranny’s syncros, but have nat been able to come up with any proof on it, what I was hearing was about redline though not RP.
If I were you I would do a little more research before dumping it in, or just go get some Honda MTF, its an improvment over just regular 5w-30
The only thing I think you’d have to worry about w/ a synthetic is damaging seals and leaking fluid. Otherwise you should be fine.
