i just recently purchased a voltage meter gauge for my 91 GS i have done some research on some mounting locations. i am a fan of the one that uses the left-most fan vent , however i was wondering if anyone has experimented with mounting a gauge / gauge pod between the steeringwheel and cluster… thanks
yeah that location, is there any way to make it look more sleek and flush with the steering column?
S chassis guys zip tie the gauge directly to the column. Rx7 guys have a gauge pod that replaces the top part of the steering column made by re-a. The 4 door drift car people mount the gauges around the cluster following the curvature of the dash. Dc integra people have a gauge pod that replaces the bezel around the cluster to hold 2 gauges. Subaru people have a pod that looks like mickey mouse ears for their steering column.
I think if you wanna be creative then make something to hold the gauge. Use the examples listed as guides.
Since it’s just a voltage meter, you don’t necessarily need it staring you in the face… you have the ability to mount it elsewhere that doesn’t stand out as much.
I’ve been toying with the idea of mounting my gauge where our ash-tray goes. With the right mount/bracketx it could be angled up and quite visible while staying somewhat tucked away.
What do you have a voltmeter for anyway?
its just a little cheapo digital one off ebay, i came across a thread where someone used their left dash fan for a location, that idea sounds cool. havent seen anyone talk about this spot: the coin pocket on the left side of the steering wheel, maybe get a dummy one from the junkyard and try it. got that idea from my friend who mounted his xm radio on his k1500 in his coin pocket/ashtray that folds out and down…
I say you hold off until you get a second guage for a dual pod.
My guess is hes getting it to monitor voltage…
The ashtray idea is pretty good. Or where the coin tray is maybe…
I went with a din size bracket that angles mine toward me, ignore the filth lol.
i like the look of that alot, also saw someones thread had an A/F gauge on the left side vent which was cool, alot of my buddies with their MK4 VWs use the ashtray slide out as a gauge mount , ill just get creative when the time comes lol
whered you find that no smoking plug? like it alot.
I did mine similar to what you guys are talking about with the ash tray delete.

It’s not as functional as I’d like though, I have to move my head quite a bit to get a good look at them which just means I don’t look as often as I should be. And even though its a track car I still kinda miss the little tray area.
what kind of material is that , that you used for your mount?
It’s fiberglass.
You can find that “No Smoking” plug at AutoZone. It’s made by “Help!” brand and is in the same area.
I had that DIN angled gauge for a bit but I thought it was too bulky with the radio. I bought smaller gauges but now I have to custom design a mount for those. It’s been a pain but I’m working on it.
