i have h.i.d.'s in my one pieces. the driver side is trippin out on me. when i turn them on, it will go on then turn off. then when i try it again it will flicker then turn off. then when i try it again, it will turn on for like 3 seconds then turn off. what is causing this? is it the bulb? the connection? any help would be appreciated. thanks.
Use a test light or mulit meter to verify the connection. Sounds like the ballast is bad.
the ballast is the box right?
yes
for future reference, “refiring” it like that multiple times in a short span is what causes it to die. If it doesn’t start the first time it’s probably bad. if your passenger side is working you’re wearing it out.
are you using a battery relay in conjunction with your HIDs?
all you have to do is switch ballasts over for right to left and left to right that way you can see if its the balasts or the bulb but it sounds like a bad ballasts
If it’s an ebay HID unit then I’m betting it’s the ballast going to shit. Seen tons of those cheap HID units with bad ballasts dead upon installation…
Like meloncholyda said… just switch ballasts and see if it works… also try shaking the connections, if it’s loose, it will go on and off…
A customer of mine was having this problem and believe it or not it was his bulb. Before you switch the ballasts from right to left and vice versa, try switching the bulbs…if the problem transfers to the other side then you have found your problem…otherwise I would agree that your ballast is bad.
I have purchased quite a few sets (for different people) on these guys and they offer a 18 month warranty on their kits…check them out if u need a replacement…I have their product on my car as we speak and I have yet to have an issue.
In your ordering, they have the option to choose slim or regular ballasts or just bulbs as well! Not many companies allow to to do this!
I had the same problem for several weeks, and I do not think your problem is bulb or ballast. I found that mine was a loose connection in the wires causing it to flicker and sometimes cut out or not turn on. Try lightly tugging/jiggling the wires with the lights on to find which one it is etc. Good luck
so it turns out it was the ballast. i tried switching the bulbs and it still didn’t work. i replaced the ballast then it worked. i turn them off put everything away and tuck everything away nice and clean, turn it on and it wouldnt turn on. i think it was just the connection
