I have 2200 bucks to spend on a complete swap and want the most for my money. I was looking at b16a’s but didnt like the torque they had and i dont want to downgrade at all from my b18a.
is this a good swap for a 91 ls special 5 spd?
how much would it cost besides the engine tranny and ecu to put it in?
is there a better choice for the money?
tell me what you think is the best choice for the money(2200 max)
thanks
H22A swaps are generally about 2500 plus shipping. Then you need to have custom axles ($$$), custom motor mounts ($$$), hydro-cable conversion for the transmission and who knows what other problems you will run into. I think it would be fun to have an H22A in a G2 but you’re going to need more than 2200 to do it. Sorry bro.
Here’s what you do with 2200(if you’re satisfied with your suspension already). Prices are estimated.
b20z…$1000
cams/springs…$500
JDM Y1 tranny w/LSD…$700
Practice your driving and you will have a killer car for the strip(I can see 14’s being possible) and you will be a threat on any type of autocross.

I have a h22 in my g2 and i wouldn’t recomend doing it unless you have about 3 months and more than 5000 for labor alone and more for nessesary parts. But if you can get it done all those people who say it handles like crap are fuul of crap. My car handles just the same if not better. check out my web site and there are a few pics of it . www.lr-racing.com also you need to fabricate an intake manifold because the factory one is about 5 inches too long. axles only need to be shortened an inch one the drivers side and half an inch in the passenger side, provided the motor is installed in the with even gaps from the frame rails. I have been driving my car for about 6 months from completeing it and have had no problems it is an incredibly fun car lot of torque and quite quick. If you have any other questions i can answer them for you because there is alot of things you need to know to make everything work. Hope that helps you guys out.
but how does the downgrade in torque really effect it? is it slower off the start or?
i HAD a b16 swap and I hated it…I was getting killed by b18a with I/H/E and I had the same on my b16a. Off the line its very bad…and uphill is the worst. I mean by the time you engage vtec, they are long gone…it would take a good long time to catch them (if you catch them at all).
$2200 max…I would say a b20…no vtec but people that I know have it gots no complain.
i don’t know if the b16 is necessarily that bad- i mean the integra xsi’s in japan are the original vehicles to hold the engine-dump a VAFC and CTR componets then you’ll be happy.
I have not run it yet still fine tuning. I am hoping for a mid 14 pass on the stock motor and on nos a 13. I am also planning on turboing it very soon i will let you know next week what it runs in the quarter mile.

what did you do with the h22 distributor, and why did you put that ford looking one??? what difference does it make??
I got rid of the distributor an put a coil pack that comes with the standalone computer, the timing is all controled in the car now i can change it on the fly aswell as everything else that makes the motor run like fuel curve and vtec switching. The coil packs are from a gm but work great. I also made a converter kit that uses the cable linkage to pull the hydraulic arm for the hydraulic clutch to work. I still have issues with it once in a while, but for the most part it works awsome.
