i did a search and found people had talked about it, but i wanna know is if anybody had tried that yet…if you did, how many miles do you have on the motor now and would you reccomend it?

My machinist said to give my engine at least 50 miles and then give it hell. Not that I don’t trust him but I put entirely too much money into the project not only to destroy it after a couple miles. Play it safe and at least go 500 miles if not a full 1000.

When I rebuilt my engine, after warming it up I took it to 7500rpm after a couple of 3000rpm shifts.

yes please do =o) my b16a should be done over the weekend, i will also try driving it hard method…
BROKEN or BROKEN IN?
j/k
well when I did my LS/V I didn’t rev pass 3.5k, but then a stupid civic hit me up then all hell broke loose. I think I did that at about the second tank of gas 300ish miles? Cars still running now, do it at your own risk.
I think another important factor is WHO built the motor.

I have a religous break in method,
-
initial start up, start motor, verify fuel and oil pressure.
-
Rev to about 2000 rpm and let it sit there for 3-5 minutes, verify that engine is still running cool (Place a fan in front of the radiator, at start up the friction is unbelievable)
-
Allow engine to drop back to idle for 3-5 minutes, visually inspect motor for leaks and funny noises.
-
rev motor from idle to about 2500 rpm, do this continually for about 3 minutes.
-
Let it return to a stable idle, verify proper engine temp, set timing, set fuel pressure and recheck all connectors.
-
shut down motor, allow it to cool for a while.
-
Drain oil, change oil and filter with castrol GTX 10-W30 and factory Honda filter. Reason for this, Your new motor will be covered in assembly lube, great for initial start up and build, not good to put a motor under load with. the initial run will also clean out any built up dirt and assembly lube that found its way into oil passages and what not.
-
Take it for a drive, I like to stay under half throttle and under 5000 rpm for atleast 500 miles.
-
After 500 miles, change oil and filter again, no synthetic yet, you need friction on intial brek in to seat the rings. Gradually increase throttle and rpm over the next 500 miles, after this, feel free, to do as you please, the rings should have seated and the engine is running properly, with time the car will loosen up and get faster.
I dont recommend the use of synthetics until atleast 5000 miles, at this point oil consumption should be down and all seals will be well lubricated. after that, I recommend Neo synthetics above all, followed by Mobil 1, Castrol syntec, redline and the like.
