i’m seriously concidering this mod… out here in fl theres nothing but highway roads and its killing my gas milage… also doin 4500rpms constantly cant be healthy for my ls/vtec… is it an easy swap?? thanks in advance
I know a couple of people on here have done it before because I’ve asked this question on here myself. I plan on doing it for the same exact reasons you are. It’s the only reason I still have my LS tranny around. As far as how to do it, I don’t know, I’m gonna have one of the techs here at work help me with it so I don’t screw it up.
I did it by myself in my garage. You will need a 32mm socket to remove the nut on the secondary shaft (also for the axle nuts)and a gear puller (slide hammer type) to remove the bearing and gears. You will also need a c-clip spreader to remove the case. It is a good idea to replace the tranny seals and clutch while the tranny is out.
With the LS 5th I can cruise at 80MPH at very low RPM’s

I did it with my hydro GSR tranny. Even a lowly stock n/a LS is fun with that setup.
