Hatch release lever rusted out...

Just wodnering, does anyone know a relatively easy or inexpensive fix to my problem?

If you pop the little plastic cap off from around the hatch and gas release levers by the driver seat, you’ll see metal cables coming from the levers. My hatch release lever has never worked and I found out it is because the cable is rusted and broke into 2. The break is somewhat clean (not too flaky around the area) and close enough to the lever that I can see it and pull it a bit with needlenose pliers.

How can I reattach these two cables togther so my hatch release lever works? I was thinkinf of using some sort of crimp (butt connect) with a small piece of cable in between, but I’m not sure if this’ll work properly.

Any suggestions welcome!

hmm i guess u can always mess around with it first since its broken already. if u use those butt connectors, make sure there really tight. also make sure u have the right size cable so its a little snug with a little play. if it doesnt work. just get another cable.
